"A renovation that was done almost fifty years ago and still holds up today. The car itself is not just a vintage gem; it also showcases the tradition of fine restoration work done in the past. Not necessarily to achieve a pristine condition, but to reflect a certain era and capture its spirit."

"A renovation that was done almost fifty years ago and still holds up today. The car itself is not just a vintage gem; it also showcases the tradition of fine restoration work done in the past. Not necessarily to achieve a pristine condition, but to reflect a certain era and capture its spirit."

Description

The car was originally sold new in Sweden in May 1951. The current owner's spouse purchased the car in the mid-1960s. The registered ownership changes have been within the family and the family-owned company. The car was used as a daily driver for a few years before undergoing a restoration in the 1970s. It was a frequent participant in various vintage car events for a long time. In recent years, it has mostly been stored in a rural garage but has now been started up again in preparation for sale.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

It starts easily with the help of a booster battery, indicating that the current battery is likely no longer rechargeable. The engine runs smoothly and a short test drive felt good. Since the car has a few years behind it and has been stationary for some time, a thorough inspection and service are recommended.

  • Interior condition:

An original interior with mild and beautiful wear. Some coloring has been done many years ago. Exquisite wood details, beautifully sculpted controls and buttons, and an absolutely charming integrated Siemens original radio. Most things appear to be functioning well, except for the radio, unfortunately. The carpets are in good condition.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork is in good condition, although there are some minor imperfections from the spray filler used at that time. The driver's door also has some textured areas in a narrow section in the middle. The chrome is in good condition with some minor imperfections and a small dent. The Bosch headlights with Marchal inserts and glass are in excellent condition. The glass and tires are in good condition, although the tires may be slightly hard. The engine and luggage compartments are in great condition. The convertible top and its protective cover are in good and functional condition.

  • General condition:

The genuine condition that this car possesses and exhibits is difficult to replicate. Years, events, and ownership have left their mark, just as much as the car model itself. This is a classic, and it carries an aura and patina that only care and love can provide...

Facts about the model

The Mercedes W136 was produced between December 1935 and September 1955. It featured an advanced central frame chassis constructed with oval tubes and independent wheel suspensions. It had front transverse leaf springs and a swing axle in the rear. The engine was a side-valve engine initially producing 38 horsepower. Production continued until 1942 when war production took over the facilities. In fact, a factory-built wood gas version was also offered in the last years.
Many of the factories were destroyed during the war, but Mercedes managed to resume car production as early as July 1947. Initially, only the sedan model was available, which was identical to the pre-war version. In May 1949, a diesel engine with a Bosch diesel pump became available as an alternative, also producing 38 horsepower.
In May 1950, an updated version with larger engines and minor upgrades was introduced. When the new pontoon model was launched, the 170 series continued as an entry-level model for a few more years. The model was manufactured as two- and four-door sedans, as well as two- and four-seater open cars, known as Cabriolet, Tourer, and Roadster. Approximately 190,000 units of the W136 model were produced in total.
