"Beautiful car in a nice color combination. Left-hand drive and equipped with the pleasant 4.2L engine, automatic transmission and power steering."

Description

This car arrived in Sweden in 1983. Initially, it was used as a daily driver, but in 1985 an engine replacement was done at Smålands Jaguarservice. In 1990-91 a bodywork renovation was carried out at a school in Östersund. After that, the car remained unassembled and unused until 2013 when a new owner purchased it and assembled it. The current owner acquired the car in 2015. Over the years, he has replaced the gearbox, outer tie rods, ball joints, fuel pump, and installed a new headliner. Additionally, a towbar was removed. The current millage is 87 340 km, however the odometer resetes at 100 000 km. We estimate that it has gone around atleast one time.

The car has now passed a recent inspection and is ready to drive. Various parts are included, such as original steel wheels, a new Moto-Lita steering wheel, new exhaust tailpipes, and various small components. Furthermore, documentation and inspection papers from 1986 are included with the car.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The automatic choke is out of function, but once the engine is running and warmed up it runs smoothly. There is a ticking sound, which according to the mechanic is not urgent and could be caused by the feeding around the valve. Repair kits are available. There is a leakage in the power steering, it is dropping. The rear shock absorbers are a bit moist on the outside. The fuel gauge is not functioning.

  • Interior condition:

A partly original interior with patina and some wear and tear, new headliner. The passenger window is out of order. The electric window motor makes noise but nothing happens.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint is glossy and nice, but there are small dents and scratches. There are also marks, especially around the wheel arches, from the previous bodywork renovation and painting, but they seem to be from the renovation over 30 years ago. The glass is in excellent condition. The engine and trunk compartments are in good shape, although a spare tire is missing. The wheels have some wear, and the tires are in good condition, but possibly slightly hard.

  • General condition:

XJ6 has a cult status and is an icon from the 70s. In the coupe model, you get an elegant and rare Grand Routier. Here we have an example that can be driven and enjoyed immediately, but can also be further upgraded to become a wonderful classic in every way. All to live up to Jaguar's motto of speed, space, and elegance.

Facts about the model

The XJ6 model was launched at the London Motor Show in September 1968 and became an instant success. In one stroke and with one model, Jaguar moved ahead in the market. Several "old-fashioned models" disappeared, and in their place stood an affordable, modern, and attractive vehicle. The order books quickly filled up, and once again, the epitaphs of pace, space, and grace were synonymous with Jaguar. There were two engine options, 2.8L and 4.2L, with the latter becoming more popular. The following year, a more luxurious version called the Daimler Sovereign was introduced. If the cars also had a vinyl roof, they were also given the name Vanden Plas. In 1972, a version with a 12-cylinder engine, the XJ12, and an extended L-version were introduced. The following year, the Daimler version also received these attributes. In 1973, the smaller 2.8L engine was discontinued and eventually replaced by the 3.4L engine a couple of years later.

In 1974, the Series II was introduced with some changes, such as a new grille and higher bumpers. For the 1975 model year, a two-door Coupe version was added, featuring a classic hardtop design. These Coupé versions came with a vinyl roof as standard and were designed as a nod to the US market. The Coupe version was only available for three model years, and the last cars rolled off the factory line in 1978. According to reports, 6,505 units were built as XJ6 and 1,873 units as XJ12.
