"A pleasant E-Type, despite not being in pristine condition. Maybe that's precisely why. This vehicle can be used as is with great advantage. Nothing requires immediate attention for usability. However, for safety purposes, we recommend an inspection of the steering column in the near future."

Description

This E-Type was sold new in Sweden and registered 1968-05-29. The nice thing about a Swedish-sold vintage car is the possibility to trace the car's history.
In 1968, the vehicle registry was not centralized. It was the responsibility of the county administrative boards to keep track of the cars and assign the registration numbers. The first letter in the number indicated the car's county affiliation.
If the car was later sold to a person in a different county, the procedure started over. This means that a car manufactured before 1973 (when the current license plate system was introduced) could have had several different registration numbers without it being unusual.

The car's first number was K 44246. From that, we can conclude that it was sold new in Blekinge County. Just 2 years later, the first owner traded in the car at a dealership in Stockholm. The car was assigned the number AB 43636. The car remained in Stockholm until June 1971 when it moved to Värmland and received its third number, SA 6366.

In this way, one can research the archives.

Since 1976, the car has only had 2 users. The most recent user purchased the car in 1980 and sold it in 2017. It then ended up with a car enthusiast who is now selling the vehicle because all time is devoted to house renovation.

The car was last inspected by the vehicle inspection authority on 2016-05-03 without any foults and is now exempt from inspection. The car is of the 1968 model year but was manufactured in 1967. Therefore, it is equipped with the shiny valve covers and the stylish toggle switches on the instrument panel that are otherwise characteristic of the Series 1. It also has Series 1 tailpipes at the rear of the exhaust system. These cars, which were produced towards the end of the Series 1 production, are referred to by collectors as 1.5 or "One and a half".

The current owner has installed a new stainless steel exhaust system.
The Jaguar is ready to drive. Unfortunately, the instruction manual is missing, but the car comes with its original spare wheel and interesting registration documents. Researching the first owner is still pending. An exciting task for the next owner. We have a feeling that such an exclusive car, as it was in 1968 already, may have been purchased new by a prominent person. Perhaps someone from the jet set of that time?

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine is a straight six-cylinder engine with a 4.2L displacement and triple carburetors. In this configuration, the power is said to be 265 horsepower. The engine starts easily and sounds right. The exhaust system is made of stainless steel and was newly installed in 2022. It runs smoothly on the road without any issues. The steering column bearing at the top of the steering wheel has a slightly smaller gap that should be checked.

  • Interior condition:

The seats in leather appear to be the original ones. There is a charm in the original with visible wear and tear. People usually talk about traces of the ravages of time. In this case, the seams have come loose in several places. There is also a burn mark on one of the front seats. The leather is also dry. A new padding would contribute to the ride comfort. The leather covering may be salvageable with the help of an expert. The alternative is to replace the leather. The headliner was replaced in the 1980s, and it is in good condition, but not the original model. See the pictures of the interior.

  • Exterior condition:

The car was repainted in 1984 with the original color (signalred) and the paint is still in good condition. The chrome is a little dull, but in good working condition and doesn't appear to have been replaced. The wire wheels are in good working condition and can become shinier with careful polishing. The right sill has some minor indentations on the underside. See picture. The trim around the rear window is missing.

  • General condition:

Fully functional condition with matching no. There are some remarks, mainly of a cosmetic nature.

Facts about the model

The Jaguar E-Type made a huge impact when it was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961. It was truly a supercar and was highly praised. The base of an E-Type is a self-supporting monocoque, and it initially included Jaguar's 3.8-liter XK engine, which grew to 4.2 liters in 1967. The body was designed by aerodynamics mathematician Malcolm Sayer, who came from aircraft manufacturer Bristol. The aircraft industry heritage is evident in the body sides shaped like wings and the nose most resembling an air intake for a jet engine.
