"An all-around pleasant and enjoyable car with the right attributes and attitude. Charming, sporty, and practical classic, here in the original color Damask Red. The V8 version was built in a small series for just over three years, and this is number 2,222 of 2,591. The last 729 built had rubber bumpers, which were removed during a previous restoration on this car, enhancing its bold attitude even more."

Description

The current owner acquired the car in August 2018 from “Former Glory” in Oxfordshire, UK, a company specializing in older MGs. He and his wife flew over, picked up the car, and drove it home via Harwich, Hoek-van-Holland, Travemünde, Trelleborg, and finally to Bålsta outside Stockholm. It passed the registration inspection in October 2018. During the winter of 2018-2019, the brakes were renovated, new rear springs were installed, and the front suspension was fitted with polyurethane bushings and struts at Trend AB in Nykvarn. In August-September of that year, a new camshaft and electronic ignition were installed at Hamilton Motors, along with timing and optimization. In 2020, the car received a service and inspection at Angelo Cars in Getinge.

The current owner has driven approximately 5000 km each year, mainly to and from a summer house on the West Coast. The car always starts easily, even after winter storage. It performs well both on small roads and at modern highway speeds.

Included with the car: the original distributor, which is analog and fully functional, the original air intake/filter, a new oil pan as the threads on the current one are starting to wear out, new side mirrors, and various original parts that have been replaced. Also included are various documents, export documents, and the original English title. Receipts for repairs and purchases are available, along with the original English plates. There is also a Heritage certificate from the British Motor Museum, certifying the car’s authenticity and manufacturing numbers, etc. A new speedometer in km/h is also included, unfortunately with the wrong fitting for the sender cable.

The car is inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and runs smoothly in both engine and drivetrain. Much work has been done to ensure it is in good mechanical condition, and this was evident during the test drive. It felt tight and fine with all functions in good order. Not inspected on a lift, but it appears to be in good condition.

  • Interior condition:

Largely in good original condition with nice seats and rear seat, door panels, panels, and headliner. The dashboard, instruments, steering wheel, and controls are in good condition. Everything appears to function well.

  • Exterior condition:

Nice paintwork, as well as other details such as trim, glass, and lighting components. The bumpers have been removed and are not available. The wheels and tires are in good condition. The engine bay is in good shape.

  • General condition:

Facts about the model

In the late 1950s, the project for the MGB was initiated as a successor to the MGA. In September 1962, the new roadster was unveiled and received positively by both the motor press and buyers. The engine, with a displacement of 1798 cc and twin SU carburetors, provided excellent performance. The gearbox was four-speed, but buyers could opt for an electric overdrive for a modest additional cost.

From 1965, the technology was improved with a five-bearing crankshaft, an oil cooler as standard, and an electric tachometer. This year also saw the introduction of a stylish and practical three-door 2+2 coupé version called the GT, in a then-fashionable hatchback design by Pininfarina. This design allowed for the inclusion of hunting, golfing, and other sports and leisure equipment in the sports car. Although there is another British classic known as the “Mini,” this car is even more suited for a couple of Westies in the back. The small rear seat had a folding backrest.

Two years later, a six-cylinder engine was also fitted into the little car, both with and without a roof. For the 1970 models, the radiator received a new look, and Rostyle aluminum wheels replaced steel wheels. Wire wheels could always be ordered throughout the years.
