Description

The owner is an avid collector of Citroën cars and spent many years searching internationally for a Traction Avant 15/6, a difficult task given how few remain. By chance, a truck driver friend mentioned spotting one in a garage just 80 kilometers away in Eksjö. He contacted the owner and managed to buy the car in 2006. The previous owner, also a Citroën enthusiast, had imported the car from France in 1997 and had the engine fully renovated by the well-known company "Nybro Engine Renovators," but had not managed to refit it. After several years and refitting the engine, along with a comprehensive review of the car, it was back on the road and received its final inspection in 2018.

The current owner has driven the car to many international Citroën car meetings and always keeps it in fully running condition. The owner commented, "I could drive this car to Paris tomorrow without any worries."

Extra work done:
Installed a new cam chain and chain tensioner.
Changed the oil in the engine and gearbox.
Installed electronic ignition (123ignition).
Fitted new tires.
Installed a small extra electric fuel pump.
Fitted new stainless steel bumpers front and rear, including the horns.
Installed new original front wheel bearings (impossible to find today).
New master cylinder and new wheel cylinders front and rear, new brake hoses, new brake bands.
Installed new suspension cylinders and accumulators, and renovated the high-pressure pump and pressure valves.
Renovated the starter motor and generator.
New radiator hoses and fuel hoses, among other updates.

Citroën Traction Avant 15/6 H was used to test the new hydro-pneumatic suspension for the upcoming DS model. Naturally, only the top-of-the-range model, the 15/6 H, was selected for this purpose, with "H" denoting hydro-pneumatic. As early as 1954, you could own a Citroën with automatically adjusting suspension—an unheard-of feature at the time!

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car is always kept in excellent running condition, with any worn or needed repairs fixed right away. Like all classic cars, the engine needs to be warmed up properly before driving. One nice modern feature added is electronic ignition, making owning this car easier. The engine bay is very clean and well-kept. It also has nice wheels, shiny hubcaps, and newer special Michelin tires.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is all original, making it feel like stepping into a time capsule. The seats and door cards feature the original velvet grey cloth, offering probably the most comfortable seating experience I've ever had. They are in nice condition with normal age-related wear. The vintage headliner and carpets complement a wonderful dashboard with original instrumentation, topped off with a rear window blind from Gradulux.

  • Exterior condition:

Bodywork is in fantastic original condition, free from rust issues or damages, with only a few spot of minor bubbles and age-related wear. The underbody is undamaged and solid. The paintwork still has a nice shine, showing some age-related stone chips, small scratches, and a few touch-ups, including some repaints on the corner of the boot lid (see pictures). The chrome work is nice and shiny, particularly the classic chrome grille with extra lights and horns, which really stand out.

  • General condition:

This wonderfully elegant car is brimming with charm. Every time you sit back and admire it, you discover more of the smart, stylish French engineering and design. Let's face it, who wouldn't want to own such a car?
