"The car runs excellently and is well taken care of, the previous owner has made some updates that make this car special."

Description

The car has been owned by a Volvo employee enthusiast who has continuously provided updates to keep the car in the best condition. There is a lot of documentation on what has been done over the years. Among other things, a replacement engine was installed in 1981, with the clutch, starter motor, and generator also being renovated. Then, a relative inherited the car in 2012 and used it sparingly until 2019 when the current owner bought it. He has taken shorter summer trips with the PV and now feels that it is not used enough, which is why he chooses to sell this beautiful car.

Facts about the model

Volvo has a lot to thank consultant Helmer Petterson for. With a background at the motorcycle manufacturer Excelsior in Chicago, he returned home in the 1930s and developed several gas generator units. In 1943, Volvo started selling his generators, and during a sales trip, he proposed to Volvo's founder, Assar Gabrielsson, that they should build a small car. The inspiration for the body primarily came from the USA, and the design was largely created by Helmer Petterson and Volvo engineer Lennart Jern.

Both of them wanted the new car to be front-wheel drive, but Gustaf Larson decided that it would have rear-wheel drive with a longitudinally-mounted four-cylinder engine. The first cars were already showcased in September 1944 at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm, but the first cars were not delivered until February 8, 1947. The PV444 was then produced until 1957 when it was replaced by the PV544.
