Description
The Volvo was purchased as a nearly rust-free renovation project. The car was sandblasted, 2K-primed, then stripped down to the smallest bolts. A professional vehicle mechanic performed the body changes and engine renovation in the 1980s. The owner renovated and replaced himself, including new gearbox bearings, reupholstered rear seat, new roof fabric, and new windows. In the spring of 2020, the car was registered as a rebuilt vehicle with the help of SFRO documents.
Parts from the Volvo 140 series 1972-73 were used to improve this PV 444 DS 1953. B20E 124 hp engine with Bosch D-Jettronic injection, disc brakes all around, two-circuit brake system with servo, safety steering wheel, front seat belts, 4-speed gearbox with overdrive, short gear lever, and 12 Volt electrical system. The car's wings have been expanded by 80 mm to accommodate front and rear axles from the 140 model as well as 6-inch wheels. The gauges feature an analogue petrol, oil pressure, temperature, and ampmeter, as well as an oil temperature gauge, tachometer, and warning lamps for oil pressure and charging. Electric windscreen washer, reverse light, rear fog lights, and hazard warning lights are all standard features. A Volvo CR 802 radio with cassette player, cigarette lighter, extra turn signals, and strategically placed extra brake lights is installed. The original seats have been replaced with two-door Peugeot seats.

Facts about the model
När det handlar om Volvo PV444 var det ofta rätt obetydliga förändringar mellan årsmodellerna. I juni 1951 hade B-modellen ersatts av C vilket knappt märktes. Man övergick från 16- till 15-tumshjul och fälgbultarna blev fem istället för fyra. När PV444 D och specialmodellen DS kom i augusti 1952 inskränkte sig ändringarna till kraftigare generator, bättre styrning och värmeanläggning som inte längre behövde eftermonteras.
Takgöken ersattes av sidoblinkers på B-stolpen.
Fram till 1953 kunde DS bara fås i grått. PV444 Special levererades från nyåret även i maroon röd färg med klädsel i rött och beige.
Volvo PV444 tillverkades från 1947 fram till 1958 då den ersattes av PV544.
PV444 blev årets mest köpta bil i Sverige.
