"Well-maintained and well-preserved Saabs have a special appeal today among many enthusiasts, both the dedicated and the newly awakened."

Description

First registration and delivery are stated as August and September 1983. Delivery service was performed on 4/9. Possibly the car stood in the showroom or was a demonstrator at the dealership in Linköping until a new owner was registered in 1985. He maintains the car according to the manual, the subsequent owner is the one who keeps it longest and drives economically. Over 30 years, maintenance and service are likely carried out by himself, and the mileage amounts to around 40,000 km. He sells the 99 in 2019 and at that point it has covered just over 94,000 km. Today the odometer reads 9,917 mil, or nicely odometer-aligned - 99,175 kilometers. When the current owner sees the ad on Blocket in March 2021, he immediately calls the dealer in Linköping and states that he is on his way from Gothenburg. "Yes, there are certainly other interested parties who will be here, but you are first in line". And indeed, there are a few others waiting, he is immediately offered "ten thousand more than what you paid". He declines and drives home to Gothenburg. The mileage added has not been great, but instead the equipment has been enhanced. The current owner has a weakness for original extra accessories and the car has been adorned both inside and out. The speed stripes with the text "Malin" (that is what the car is called) are of course an own invention, but the stripes follow the original's shape. The vehicle is being offered for sale due to illness rather than a loss of interest. The latest approved inspection was carried out on 2025-08-16.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily with the choke operated. Engine and gearbox feel good as expected, but the clutch release bearing has a distinct noise with the clutch disengaged. The owner has performed oil services a couple of times over the years despite only a few hundred kilometers driven.

  • Interior condition

Completely and cleanly and neatly presented. And well-equipped. Nice upholstery and door panels. Parts of the headliner are sagging; to glue a new one the roof would need to be removed through the front or rear window frame. The car comes with a brand-new headliner. The wood-grain tape on the dashboard is slightly bubbled.

  • Exterior condition

Original paint in good condition, under the plastic on the fender edges it appears to be fine. Some corrosion on the inside lower edge of the left rear door. Also a small dent on the same door that should be easy to repair. The owner's passion for original accessories is evident in, among other things, a lacquered rear window blind, original Inca Turbo wheels with newer Kumho tyres from 2019, front spoiler, extra lights and a speed stripe running around the car along the spoiler and ending on the rear panel with the car's name, "Malin". The ornate 99 badge under the front bumper appears to be an original badge from some exhibition.

  • General condition

The last year of a car's model cycle is often also the best. The 99 remained in production for 15 years and this example is a well-preserved representative of the model in fine and neat condition.

Facts about the model

The Saab 99 was introduced as a 1969 model year and quickly became a successful model with front-wheel drive, innovative design and continuous technical development. From the start it was available as a two-door model with 80 hp, and the following year a four-door version with fuel injection arrived. Over the years several more powerful and better equipped variants were launched such as EMS, LE and GLE, and in 1976 the acclaimed turbo version was presented. For the 1984 model year, which became the Saab 99's last, minor updates were made, including electronic ignition system, improved driving characteristics, lower seats with automatic electric heating and new colour options. A total of 588,643 examples were manufactured between 1967 and 1984. The model lived on briefly in the form of the Saab 90 from 1985, a combination of the Saab 99's front and the two-door Saab 900's rear. But after three years of production that model was also discontinued.
