"An uncommon model, and therefore not often seen on the roads today."

Description

The current owner and his partner purchased the car together in 2017, both being long-time Opel enthusiasts. Since the 1980s, the owner has owned several notable Opels—among them an Opel Commodore GS/E and an Opel Monza GS/E. The Caravan was in good condition when acquired; he performed minor rust repairs in 2017, but otherwise it had been well cared for since its import from Germany in 2002. As a 32-year-old car it shows a few blemishes here and there, but nothing unexpected.

According to Irmscher in Remshalden (verbal information only), only a handful of Caravans were built in this specification and equipment level—apparently intended as tow vehicles for racing teams, with the race car carried on a trailer behind the Caravan. No written documentation exists, however, so this remains anecdotal.

Few Opel Omega Caravans survive today, regardless of engine or trim. Factory Swedish deliveries included four engine options—from a four-cylinder two-liter up to six-cylinder 2.6–3.0L 12-valve units, plus the C30SE 24-valve motor found in this example. It’s a quick car—lively, powerful, and capable of outpacing far more expensive models in both top speed and acceleration. The handling is excellent, and it feels firmly planted.

Under the current owner it’s been used chiefly as a summer enthusiast’s car, with significant effort spent preserving its original equipment. It’s inspected and key-ready.

Equipment includes:

Irmscher interior (leather seats and door panels)

Wood steering wheel

Upgraded high-beam units

Detachable tow hook

Central locking & electric windows

Limited-slip differential

Sunroof

Air conditioning (not yet activated after condenser replacement)

Rear spoiler over tailgate

Automatic rear-suspension level control

Engine-oil cooler

Luggage-area cover

ABS brakes

Maintenance & updates since 2017 (last 20 000 km):

Water pump

Rear exhaust system

Rear air suspension (including compressor control unit)

Windshield

Tailgate gas struts

Serpentine belt & idler pulley

Four-wheel alignment

Because it’s been stored long periods, you may occasionally find a small oil spot underneath. The odometer reading may understate the true distance by a few thousand kilometers. Nonetheless, this Omega Caravan remains a rare, well-preserved classic—ready for sunny drives ahead.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Peppy and responsive. The engine and drivetrain perform well.
The front brakes judder, likely due to warped discs. The car sits unused for long stretches, and you may occasionally spot oil drips on the garage floor. The tow-hitch cover is missing. According to the owner, the next oil change is due in about 3000 km. The odometer reading should be taken with a grain of salt—inspection records suggest it may have actually covered a few thousand extra kilometers. The air conditioning is not functioning.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in good condition for its age and mileage. The headliner around the sunroof is soiled, and the rear section of the headliner fabric is loose and is currently stapled in place.

  • Exterior condition:

Older repaint in normal used condition for the car’s age and mileage. There are a few small dents, door-edge dings, and stone-chip marks, as well as some surface rust—see photos—but nothing that writes the car off. Other signs of use are also visible—see images.

  • General condition:

The car is in normal used condition for its age and mileage. It has been inspected and approved at the vehicle inspection station and is therefore road-ready.

Facts about the model

The 1993 OpelOmegaCaravan is the estatecar version of the secondgeneration Omega—known as the OmegaA—produced from 1986 to 1994. It represented Opel’s push into a larger, comfortable, and relatively upscale uppermidrange car—especially in wagon form, where it targeted both families and companycar drivers. The model was prized for longdistance touring and its cargo capacity. With the right engine (for example, the 26L or 30L), it also offered strong performance. Today it’s regarded as something of a rarity, with few examples left in good condition.

This particular Omega was modified by Irmscher. Irmscher Automobilbau GmbHandCo.KG is a German firm specializing in vehicle tuning, performance upgrades, and accessories—primarily for Opel cars, but also for brands like Peugeot, Chevrolet, and Fiat. The company is especially well known among enthusiasts for its sporty special editions of Opel models. In the case of the Omega, Irmscher often enhanced the car by tuning the 3.0L sixcylinder engine (up to around 200hp), modifying the suspension, fitting sport exhaust systems and spoilers, and equipping interiors with bespoke trim and badges. In some instances, they even offered unique color schemes. Irmscher is often called Germany’s equivalent of AMG for Opel. A storied company, it combines motorsport pedigree, design flair, and engineering expertise. Today, the most soughtafter Irmschertuned cars are rare collector’s items—especially those preserved in original, factorymodified condition.
