"Easy to drive, with a harmonious feel between the mechanics, engine, and chassis."

Description

It was first registered for road use in Sweden in 2005, according to the Swedish Transport Agency, although it had an earlier Swedish history before being sold to Norway for several years. In 2011, the current owner commissioned an extensive restoration in Germany. Since then, the car has competed in numerous ADAC rallies in Germany, as well as enjoyed local outings at home. The most recent—and last—approved inspection was carried out on 15 June 2017.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

It starts up smoothly and easily, and the starter pedal positioned above the accelerator works perfectly. The clutch has just the right resistance and the gearshifts are equally precise, while the brakes bite as they did back in the day—yet still feel effective.

  • Interior condition:

Beautifully restored interior using high-end materials. The carpets are durable, attractive, and of excellent quality. The headliner of the soft top is clean and smart.

  • Exterior condition:

Attractive color combination, lovely paint, and good chrome and glass. The soft top folds relatively easily, is in fine condition, and is made of high-quality material. There’s a small tear at the bottom rear on the left side (see photo).

  • General condition:

Well maintained, beautifully restored, and in excellent working order—presented in a highly representative condition.

Facts about the model

The model was produced between May 1949 and August 1953. The W136 170 S (1949–51) was the factory’s first post-war design and a more luxurious evolution of the W136 model. On the chassis side, it featured a new front suspension with double wishbones and coil springs, as well as a larger engine. The body was new but far from modern, retaining clear stylistic traces of the interwar W153 230 model. The car was built both as a sedan and in two cabriolet versions (A – two-seater; B – four-seater). Despite these differences, the first version of the 170S kept the internal code W136.
