"Pre-war cars have, to some extent, seen a revival among younger enthusiasts, and this particular example represents its genre with a distinct sense of pride."

Description

According to records, the car was first delivered to its original owner, a doctor in Skellefteå, sometime in 1931. Three years later, hardware dealer Erland Sjödin purchased the car, and during the war years, it was deemed unsuitable for military requisition.

In the 1950s, the car passed through several owners in Svarttjärn, Sjöbotten, Vindeln, Åmsele, and Umeå. In October 1991, a formal "investigation to be presented to the registration authority for the registration of a motor vehicle" was conducted by criminal inspectors Lindskog and Bäckström in the garage of then-owner Emil Boström in Skellefteå—serious business when it comes to registration documentation for an old pre-war car.

Through an intermediary, the current owner acquired the Ford in 1992, restored it to exhibition condition, and the car was re-registered for road use in Sweden in August 1994.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine has not been started, but the car rolls easily and the engine turns over. Keys are included, and the car is essentially ready to drive, though it will need an oil check and a new battery before starting.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in mint condition—likely even better than the factory finish achieved back in 1931. It’s clear that the car has been well cared for and, as a result, exceptionally well preserved over the years. The same level of care and condition applies to the rumble seat, where everything is equally tidy and intact.

  • Exterior condition:

Beautiful two-tone paint, excellent chrome and glass, and an elegant soft top complete with all components and a lacquered wooden frame. Wheels, tires, and undercarriage are in equally good condition. A stylish and practical trunk is mounted at the rear.

  • General condition:

Over the years, the current owner has driven the car on many ceremonial occasions and, together with his wife, has taken great care to dress impeccably in keeping with the car and the event. Naturally, they’ve also enjoyed the car on gatherings and spontaneous outings. Today, it requires a start-up and a routine inspection.

Facts about the model

The Ford Model A exists in relatively large numbers in Sweden, but it is rarely seen on the roads. The Model A was the successor to Ford’s best-seller, the Model T. When the Model A was introduced in November 1927 as a 1928 model, it was just in time—competitors had caught up and surpassed the Ford Motor Company with faster, more comfortable, and better-designed cars.

With the Model A, Ford now had a modern car to offer: a more powerful engine, a real gearbox, and attractive styling. The Model A became an instant success. By February 4, 1929, one million units had already been sold. By the end of July that same year, that number had doubled to two million. Production of the Model A ended in March 1932 after more than four million units had been built.

According to the Swedish Model A Ford Association (Svenska A-Fordarna), there are about 1,200 registered Model As in Sweden. The most common variant is the 1930–31 Ford Tudor. A wealth of reproduction parts is available for purchase, making it easy to keep these cars running.
