"Italian sports car feel in a slightly rarer and relatively discreet format, making it even more attractive."

Description

The car was directly delivered in March 1985 to the then-prominent motor journalist at Expressen, Lennart Öjesten. He had a house in France, and it seems that the general agent Fiat Auto France facilitated the transaction directly to Öjesten, who paid with a check for 56,140 francs and 6 centimes. Reportedly, he picked up the car at the Pininfarina factory. Two years later, in 1987, the car was imported to Sweden and has had few owners since. The car is a European specification with a USA-approved engine but without a catalytic converter. The current owner bought the car at BWA’s auction in 2018 from the so-called Pall-Olles collection in Skånes Fagerhult, has maintained it well, and has driven around 6,000 kilometers in 6 years. The latest approved inspection was done recently, on May 28, 2024.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine was specified for the American market and unleaded gasoline but without a catalytic converter. In the documentation, there is also a handwritten note stating “Can be driven on both UNLEADED and SUPER fuel.” The engine runs smoothly, with a pleasant feel in the drivetrain, good steering, and brakes.

  • Interior condition

Stylish and well-preserved original interior with vinyl seats and fresh carpets, including in the trunk. Factory-installed cruise control with the control lever placed in the middle of the driveshaft tunnel, in the form of a vertical lever through a metal plate where the ashtray normally sits.

  • Exterior condition

Original paint in good condition with a few normal small stone chips and a minor mark on the front edge of the driver’s door. New and fresh tires in original dimensions by Continental on stylish, undamaged original aluminum wheels. The convertible top is intact and clean, and easy to operate. A wind deflector is also included if desired.

  • General condition

Charming, fun-to-drive, and beautiful Italian car with a long model cycle. A sports car that had contemporaries and predecessors like the Alfa Spider, MGB, all Spridgets, and Triumph Spitfire— all affordable roadsters with sensible engineering. Just a few years after the Spider’s exit, the mantle of the popular sports car would be picked up by Mazda with its MX-5 Miata.
