Description
The car appears to be in original condition in terms of paint and interior. The paint has been inspected and measured. The mileage also seems to be accurate, and the current owner, who is familiar with the car’s history, certifies this. Previous inspection records support this. However, the odometer recently stopped working, and the car has been driven about 1,000 kilometers since then. It received Ditec treatment in May and was inspected on July 6, and is ready to drive.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Starts and runs well in both the engine and drivetrain. Test driven for a short distance at a moderate pace, and the steering, brakes, and shifting were found to work well. The idle is high, and there is noise from the engine fan. A technical inspection is recommended. Not inspected on a lift, but from what could be seen, there is rust on the edges underneath that should be checked more closely. However, the vehicle inspection has not raised any objections to vital parts.
-
Interior condition
Nicely preserved original leather upholstery. The seats retain their resilience, including the charming small back seat. There is minor wear, especially on the side of the driver’s seat from getting in and out. There are also some damages to a few rubber seals. The headliner of the hardtop is in good condition. The door panels and interior panels are in good shape, as are the steering wheel, dashboard, controls, and wood trim. Most functions seem to be working, but the odometer and AC functions are uncertain and need attention.
-
Exterior condition
Nice original paint that has recently been Ditec-treated. There are a few blisters, stone chips, minor dents, and scratches in the paint. The right door has a slight tonal variation in the middle. Chrome, glass, rubber, plastic, and lighting details are in good original condition with normal wear. The drainage near the fuel cap is clogged. The hardtop is in good condition, but the driver’s side is missing the mount at the B-pillar, and the knob to release it at the B-pillars is also missing. The ones for the roof/windshield frame were in the glove compartment, tested and working. Nice wheels with good tires, though their age is uncertain. The engine and trunk compartments are in original condition with normal wear. The soundproofing mat is missing from the hood.
-
General condition
This car has bided its time and had its Sleeping Beauty slumber, but now it is ready for the roads again. The model, design, history, and future speak in favor of this car. There are aspects to check and address, but it is a vehicle that remains largely in its original condition and is a historically interesting classic.

Facts about the model
What we do know is that the new 300 SL racer with gullwing doors, introduced in 1952, eventually led to a more civilized street version produced from 1954 to 1957. When it disappeared, an open Roadster with the same performance and look was made from 1957 to 1963.
At the same time, a slightly calmer and more timid version of an SL, the R121 Mercedes 190 SL, was produced from 1955 to 1963. When it was time for successors to these two, there was only one version, the W113 Mercedes 230 SL, called Pagoda. There were also 250 SL and 280 SL versions during the years 1963-1971.
So, in April 1971, it was time for the Pagoda’s successor, the R107 Mercedes 350 SL, with a 3.5 L V8 engine producing 200 hp. Both safety and technology, as well as road handling, were significantly improved over its predecessor. In 1973, the 450 SL with 225 hp was introduced, primarily for the US market. For the 1974 models, a six-cylinder variant was also offered again. Minor changes continued over the years, and the final model year was 1989, when it was time for the next generation, the R129.
From nicknames like “Pizza Racer” and “Dallas Moped,” the 107 has now earned its place on the podium for classic sports cars from Mercedes, proudly bearing the SL emblem with all due honor.
