"Tough, potent, fun, and attention-grabbing."

Description

The current owner's son originally had plans to build a race-inspired Mini. He was just 15 years old when he purchased the engine and gearbox for the project—acquired from someone who had built a suitable setup intended for track use but had lost interest. Eventually, the son also bought a complete Mini to serve as the base for the build. He prepared the body shell and had it painted, but over time, he too lost interest and sold the entire project to his father, the current owner.

After a few years, the father sold the project to the next owner, who continued developing the car—rebuilding the front and rear suspension and fitting a rear roll cage, among other improvements. Due to various circumstances, the car was later bought back by the previous owner, who then completed the build. The Mini was approved by the Swedish SFRO (Vehicle Builders’ National Organization) and subsequently passed road inspection.

The entire build is thoughtfully executed, with no shortcuts taken or corners cut to reach the car's current high-quality condition. The body has been partially “de-seamed,” and the door handles have been eliminated in favor of electric door locks—see the button under the side mirror in the photos.

One seriously cool street racer!

Facts about the model

Alec Issigonis, who had previously designed the much-appreciated Morris Minor, was tasked with developing a fuel-efficient small car in the aftermath of the Suez Crisis. Issigonis was a strict functionalist—nothing unnecessary was to be included in the new design. Maximizing interior space on the smallest possible footprint became the guiding principle.

As a result, the engine was mounted transversely, with the gearbox placed beneath it to save space. The tailgate folded downward to serve as additional cargo space. With a bit of goodwill, four adults could travel in it with reasonable comfort.

The Mini made its debut in 1959 and was manufactured by BMC from 1959 to 1969, by Leyland from 1969 to 1984, and later by the Rover Group until 2000. After that, production of the original model came to an end—though it lives on in a new form under BMW's ownership.
