"The engine was started with new oil, fuel and an ignition/electrical check. The engine rooms look wonderful, and all of the electrics operate (windows, locks, roof, etc.). Because the car has been sitting for more than 20 years, it needs a thorough servicing and examination. It does run and drive, but only for a few hundred metres without incident."

Description

Behold the extraordinary journey of this Saab Aero 16V, which embarked on its maiden voyage from the Saab dealer in Ulricehamn to its proud owner in Borås back in 1987. With unwavering devotion, the owner affectionately refers to it as their "second wife," having cherished it since day one. To preserve its pristine allure, the car has been adorned with seat covers and plastic floor covers throughout its lifetime. It accompanied the family on blissful summer vacations across Europe, and the owner even installed an extravagant and now somewhat obsolete Police Radar system, which remains functional to this day.

Having clocked most of its 47,000 kilometers within its first decade, the car was garaged and in 2001, untouched until we recently collected it three weeks ago. The car's authenticity is verified by its inspection reports, accompanied by the original service and handbook. After a thorough cleaning and polishing session, the car has regained its former glory, bearing only a few minor paint blisters and older touch-ups from bygone years. Some signs of surface rust can be observed on the front edge of the inner door corners, but overall, the car remains rust-free.

This exceptional Saab Aero 16V bears a gentle dent on the driver's door, which can be effortlessly repaired without affecting the paint. Additionally, two hardly noticeable small dents grace the roof. However, once the seat covers and plastic floor covers are removed, the entire car reclaims its pristine state, a testament to the owner's forward-thinking preservation efforts. This remarkable vehicle is a true rarity, showcasing not only its low mileage, rust-free exterior, but also an interior in a wonderful condition.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

After performing essential maintenance tasks like oil and fuel replacement, as well as conducting thorough checks on the electrics and ignition, we successfully started the car. It exhibits smooth starting and drives well, with the brakes, gears, and clutch functioning properly. However, we have only conducted a brief test drive covering a few hundred meters to ensure basic operational performance. It is strongly recommended to schedule a comprehensive service, review, and obtain a new inspection/MOT, as the previous one was conducted over 20 years ago. Additionally, please note that there are a few rear blinker and headlight bulbs that require replacement.

  • Interior condition:

With the seat covers and plastic floor covers removed, the interior of the car reveals pristine seats, spotless carpets, and undamaged plastic sill covers. The dashboard remains in excellent condition, and all instruments, including the electrical components like mirrors, windows, and roof, are in working order, excluding the radio. Notably, the car features a unique "James Bond" radar system, and three gauges have been replaced with tilt leveling gauges. Additionally, an extra speaker and some additional cabling are present under the radio console, easily removable without causing any damage. However, a common issue is that the headliner in the rear is hanging and may require attention.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork has been polished to a nice condition, but further improvements are possible if desired. The door dent and two small roof dents can be fixed without damaging the paint. Minor blisters and touch-ups are present, as shown in the pictures, but can be easily addressed. Surface rust is confined to the front corners of the inner doors, while the underbody and under doors are clean. Scuffs on the bumper "see pictures"

  • General condition:

This Saab Aero Turbo, with its exceptional condition and low mileage, is an exceedingly rare find. It may be a considerable wait before another similar opportunity arises for sale.
