"A truly genuine, untouched, and unspoiled 1950s Taunus with essentially only one previous owner throughout its years in traffic. The first owner had the car for just under 5 months. The items that need attention before inspection are the front brakes, as well as adjusting the fuel/air mixture on the carburetor. Cosmetically, it is recommended to acquire an additional hubcap and install them on the car. There are few cars that look good with bare steel rims, and the Taunus "jordglob" is not one of them."

Description

It's rare to come across a car that has been stored for so long and yet remains in such great condition. According to information from the previous owner, the car has been kept in a heated garage since 1983. The car was originally purchased from Harry Est in Karlstad on June 13, 1956, and was delivered to the buyer, Ragnar Bergstedt, three days later. Ragnar worked as a porter in Karlstad. The car was registered with the license plate S 37860.

On December 4 of the same year, Ragnar sold the car to bus driver David Gustavsson in Arvika. David kept the car until it was taken out of use in 1983 and sold to a car enthusiast in Arvika. The car remained stored in a garage until 2013. According to accompanying documentation, some minor damages to the front fenders were repaired and repainted during that time. The brakes were also renovated, along with the starter motor, generator, and more.

During its period of non-registration, the car was removed from the vehicle register, and it was re-registered on April 21, 2022, following an approved origin inspection. The only observation was uneven front brake performance. Therefore, the front brakes need to be examined and a new inspection performed. Once the inspection is successfully completed, the car will be exempt from inspections, according to the vintage vehicle regulations.

Full documentation of previous owners, the old registration certificate, and the original instruction manual are included. Three loose hubcaps, as well as a spare wheel and original jack, are included with the car. Additionally, a new exhaust system from 1978 and a leaf spring are also included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car is equipped with a straight-four overhead valve engine of 1.5 liters, along with a 3-speed manual transmission operated from the steering column. The main brake cylinder has been replaced from a single-circuit to a more modern dual-circuit system.

The engine starts smoothly and runs evenly, although the choke is pulled out. After some investigation and reading the inspection report, we discovered that the carbon monoxide (CO) level is too low. The carburetor needs to be adjusted and the fuel mixture increased. Currently, it is running too lean. It should not be a problem for a skilled mechanic to easily fix.

Unfortunately, the clutch cable came off, so we have not been able to test-drive it on the road. The owner will install a new cable so that the buyer can test-drive the car before delivery.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in very good condition overall. There is only some wear on the driver's seat and on the fabric trim on the left side. The original rubber mat in the coupe is in flawless condition. The trunk is also in very good condition. There were newspapers placed between the rubber mat and the metal floor for extra protection. They were dated 1974 (see attached curiosity photo showing how it looked before we removed them). It shows how someone made an extra effort to protect the trunk space. The rubber mat will look great with a thorough cleaning.

  • Exterior condition:

Mainly very nice original paint, only the front fenders, front, and a small area on the left sill have been repainted. The shade slightly differs on the repainted areas, but the preparation and painting of the fenders have been professionally done. 3 hubcaps are included separately. The chrome moldings are in good condition. The front bumper is in good condition, while the rear bumper has been painted silver in the middle. Please refer to the pictures. There is a small dent on the left sill, but overall, the body is solid and straight.

  • General condition:

A fine original car, mostly with preserved original paint. It is a pleasant and rare model in this nice condition. It has had few owners.

Facts about the model

This was Ford's first new European car after World War II. In 1952, the brand new Taunus 12M (G13) was introduced, featuring a pontoon body style similar to the 1949 US Ford but in a smaller format, and equipped with a 1.2-liter inline four-cylinder engine. The model is often referred to as the "Weltkugel" (world globe) due to the globe-shaped emblem on the front. After a few years, the series was expanded with the 15M model, which had a larger 1.5-liter engine. In 1955, the first facelift was introduced, replacing the split grille with a single-piece design. The model series continued to be produced until 1962.
