Description
When new, the car was fitted with an aftermarket performance control unit ("tuning box"). It is unknown how much additional power it produced. The original control unit is included with the car.
Since 1990, the vehicle remained untouched for many years until the valve spring issue was recently rectified and the engine was brought back to life. To preserve the exceptionally low mileage, the car has only been driven sparingly since then, primarily for photography and short test drives. The engine currently runs somewhat unevenly and the car will require a service and fine-tuning to reach its full potential.
A charming period-correct detail is that the car was ordered from the factory without a radio, an unusual specification that further enhances its originality. The interior has stood the test of time remarkably well and is virtually in like-new condition, although the headliner has begun to sag in a few places after decades of storage. Likewise, the original paintwork remains in excellent condition. There is a small scratch on the trunk lid (see photos), which will most likely polish out.
The Saab is currently not roadworthy/inspected and has been off the road since 1992 as a direct consequence of the original valve spring issue. For collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate highly original cars, this Saab 900 presents a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptionally low-mileage example with a history unlike almost any other.
Included with the car are the original service book, containing only the delivery inspection and first warranty service stamps, two sets of keys, a brand-new tow hitch, and a new set of mud flaps (see photos).

Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine has recently been restarted after its long period of storage and currently runs somewhat unevenly. As the car has not been serviced for many years, a full service should be carried out before it is put back into regular use.
It is also unrealistic to expect the air conditioning system to function properly after having been unused since 1990, and it will likely require inspection and recommissioning.
The original tool kit is missing (see photo).
The car still wears its original tires—which may well contain the original air from when they were fitted at the factory. While they retain excellent tread depth, the rubber has hardened with age and the tires must be replaced before the car is driven on the road. -
Interior condition
The interior is about as close to showroom condition as one could hope to find in a late-1980s car. Remarkably, the cabin still retains that distinctive new-car smell. The dashboard is in excellent condition, free from cracks or damage.
The headliner has begun to sag slightly in places, however, a consequence of the car's many years in storage. Despite this, the overall impression is one of exceptional preservation and originality. -
Exterior condition
The original factory paintwork remains in exceptionally fine condition. Apart from a small scuff and blemish on the trunk lid, as well as a minor scratch on one of the doors (see photos), the exterior presents very well and retains an impressive overall appearance.
Underneath, the Saab also appears to be in good condition. There is some light surface corrosion visible on components such as the suspension control arms and certain chassis parts. -
General condition
A true time warp. A 1989 Saab 900 in remarkably close-to-new condition. Perfect for the collector or anyone looking for an exceptionally low-mileage classic Saab in outstanding condition.
