Wonderfully beautiful "Golden Yellow" Amazon, where everything is just right. We dare say it's Sweden's best Amazon restoration.

Description

The owner of this car is a professional Volvo mechanic. He has owned the car for 23 years, and when he began the restoration process five years ago, the car had only traveled 99 000 km. The decision to restore the car to perfection gradually took shape. Originally, it was only supposed to receive a new paint job, as it was in very good condition. It had been driven in the inland regions of Norrland and was only faded by the sun, with no serious rust issues. However, the owner is a perfectionist and decided to completely strip the car down to ensure a clean body. It was then placed on a stand and meticulously sanded and repainted in the original "Gyllengul" color to make it look brand new. All loose chassis parts were blasted and painted, and all screws were replaced with new ones or anodized. New interior details were sourced from VP-autoparts and other suppliers. The engine was rebuilt, the gearbox was inspected and painted with the correct color, and every other detail in the engine bay and other areas, such as the jack, was also restored. Even the speedometer was refurbished, and the odometer was reset to zero, as the car was being reborn anew. This spring, the car was completed and taken to the vehicle inspection for a final check. It was put into traffic at the end of May and has only covered 17 kilometers since its completion. Take a look at the pictures and enjoy. There is only one other Amazon in the country in this pristine condition, and it is on display at the Volvo Museum and has never been driven on the road.

As a fun fact, according to information, this is the only "Gyllengul" (golden yellow) '65 Amazon in the country. The color was discontinued in Volvo's catalog with the 1964 model year (both for the PV and Amazon) in the fall of '64. This car was manufactured in September 1964 (first registered on November 12, 1964), and for some reason, a '65 model was painted in the older color. 1965 also saw many other detail changes, such as new seats, a different grille, and rear handles, among others. That's why it is particularly delightful to have this beautiful color, which suits the Amazon so well. The vehicle registry notes the color as white, but the car has always been "gyllengul" (golden yellow).

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts right away, the choke operates perfectly, the engine purrs like a sewing machine, and the gears shift smoothly. It's almost tear-jerking to drive the car out of the garage. Is this how they felt when they were new?! It feels like a fine mechanical masterpiece compared to the equivalent in everyday condition that one has driven so many times...

  • Interior condition:

Newly upholstered seats, headliner, door panels, and more in the original color and design. The only deviation is the lower carpet, which is made of velour instead of rubber, as the original material is no longer available. All the details are equivalent to new, even everything under the dashboard and under the carpets. No shortcuts anywhere.

  • Exterior condition:

Straight body with no signs of previous repairs. Perfect door and hood gaps. Flawless paintwork, both in thickness and finish. The quality of the paint is truly remarkable, both on the exterior and in all the edges and crevices. Perfect glass windows, trim, lights, and other details. Everything is original with the correct part numbers and date stamps.

  • General condition:

Everything is correct on the car, even the date stamp on the owner's manual and the part number on the spare wheel. Is it too nice to be driven? I don't think so. A few thousand miles with this car over a few years/summers is pure joy and a high level of quality of life. The important thing is to be careful about how it is stored, that's the most crucial aspect. A dry and dust-free climate in the garage is essential for a car as beautiful as this one.
