Description

In 1989, car buyers had the option to choose between nice domestic cars such as the Saab 900, Volvo 740, or the reliable Volvo 240. However, if they wanted something out of the ordinary, something that would spark conversations at work or at parties, they would choose the Mercedes 190E. The current car, including the dealer, has had 13 owners since new. However, there are no noticeable signs of it. It runs smoothly and looks great. As a vintage car now, it maintains its aura as an exclusive vehicle.

The odometer reading is approximately 36,000 Swedish miles, which demonstrates the high quality of Mercedes cars in the 1980s. The original instruction manual is missing, but a spare wheel and jack are included.

Nice paint and attention to detail. There is some minor wear/color rubbing on the left sill near the driver's door. It should be easy to touch up. Please refer to the provided image.

  • General condition:

Good overall impression. It is in much better condition than what is typically expected for its mileage and age.

Facts about the model

The "E" in the model name "190 E" stands for "Einspritzung," which means fuel injection in German. Mercedes introduced their high-performance version, marketed as the 190 E 2.3-16V, at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1983. The regular 190 model used a carburetor, but the 190 E featured Bosch KE-Jetronic multi-point fuel injection. Mercedes wanted to compete in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) (German Touring Car Championship) motorsport series, which required cars based on production models.

To meet these requirements, Mercedes enlisted the British engineering firm Cosworth to develop an engine suitable for the 190 series. However, the cars that competed in the championship had to be based on a production model, so Mercedes had to produce a limited number of 190 cars equipped with a toned-down version of the Cosworth engine. This high-performance model became known as the 190 E 2.3-16V.

When it was launched in September 1983, the 190 E 2.3-16V already had a reputation. Prior to the launch, three slightly modified cars had set three world records in August at the Nardo test facility in Italy, achieving a combined average speed of 154.06 mph (247.94 km/h) during a 50,000 km endurance test and establishing twelve international endurance records.
