Citroën DS20 D Super — 1975

The last model year of the legendary "Gudinnan" (the Goddess) with four previous owners in remarkably well-preserved and pleasingly good condition. It has a low mileage that has recently passed the 100 000 km mark.

"It is worth cherishing this DS, as it is not easy to find them in this condition anymore. It seems to have flown under the radar of the Swedish Citroën Club, meaning that the previous owners have not been members of the club. This adds a touch of excitement for the connoisseurs."

Description

It was delivered to its first owner in November 1974. This owner must have taken good care of the car, driven it sparingly, and meticulously protected it against rust, as this is how these models have been preserved. About 10 years later, an enthusiast likely took over the car, and even the most recent owner in 2016 also took care of the car properly. In 2021, the car was sold to the current owner, who has used it sparingly for outings and events but has kept it in a carport. The current owner feels that someone with a proper garage should take over the care of the car. Some interesting details specific to the Nordic markets are the headlamp wipers and, most notably, the red color Rouge Cornaline, which was only available here and in Italy, according to information. No red DS models were sold in France in the final year.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts very easily, the brakes are known to be effective, and maneuvering the rack and pinion steering is straightforward. The hydraulic system operates efficiently, and the car rises quickly. The gray gas spheres (normally they are green and round) indicate that they have been recently replaced. They function well and have a long-life membrane that maintains pressure for longer, but they may feel slightly firm to a sensitive hydraulic enthusiast. One of the previous owners has also modified the heating system with Ballofix-type valves to be able to shut off the heating elements. It is likely that one of the elements had a leakage issue, but these are easy to remove and take to a radiator workshop for classic soldering and repair.

  • Interior condition:

There is a cover on the seats and the original upholstery seems to be well-preserved underneath. Otherwise, the simpler fabric upholstery of DS models tends to wear quickly. The headliner has been replaced and the glue has come loose in a few places. With the right contact adhesive and good knowledge research, it is relatively easy to redo. The hat shelf has also been protected by an additional mat and the floor mats are intact and clean.

  • Exterior condition:

There is a seat cover in place, and the original upholstery seems to be well-preserved underneath. Typically, the simpler fabric upholstery in DS models tends to wear out quickly. The headliner has been replaced, but the adhesive has come loose in some areas. With the proper contact adhesive and thorough research, it is relatively easy to reattach it. The parcel shelf has also been protected by an additional mat, and the floor mats are intact and clean.

  • General condition:

An attractive late-model goddess with a simpler trim level, primarily distinguished by equipment details and fuel supply. It is representative and well-maintained, and nowadays, a carbureted version is actually preferred as they are more reliable and easier to maintain compared to the electronic fuel injections of the seventies.

Facts about the model

Citroën DS has been a forward-thinking and enjoyable form for conscious car owners ever since its introduction in 1955. The 1975 model was the final iteration after a 20-year production cycle, with over 1.3 million cars manufactured. It was a long model cycle that would not have been viable today, with facelifts and new models emerging within just a few years.
