Description

A document from the well-known Marti Auto Works among Ford enthusiasts, a Marti Report, reveals the car's complete original specifications and delivery history. This GT was delivered to its first owner through the dealer Lucan Motor Co Inc. in Burlington, New Jersey. The document shows that the car was a GT M-code with a 351 four-barrel engine. It was also delivered as a Triple Black, meaning a black exterior, black interior, and black convertible top.

In 1975, it was imported to Sweden (likely) by Haga Bilforum AB in Stockholm. Eventually, after a few years in the American car scene in Stockholm, it ended up in Luleå in 1977 with a father and son who restored the car between 1977 and 1987; it was de-registered during that period. Through an intermediary in Luleå, the Mustang made its way to Stenungsund in 1991 for a summer fling with the owner Carina, and later that fall, the current owner purchased the car. He has driven it an average of 100 kilometers per year since then.

The speedometer is calibrated in km/h, but the odometer likely measures in miles. The most recent and final inspection was carried out on May 22, 2017, meaning the car was approved when the new regulations came into effect on April 20, 2018.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine is matching numbers to the car and was rebuilt in the late 1980s. At the same time, it was painted in a red shade, likely Volvo red. This is something for the originality enthusiast to consider: painting the engine Ford blue and also fitting an original air cleaner in the same color. The engine starts quickly, the power steering is feather-light, and the transmission shifts as it should. A slight squeak from the fan belt can be heard in the video, but the belt has now been tightened, adjusted, and is silent.

The GT model featured dual exhausts, reinforced suspension, and a front sway bar.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is original with a few small temporary repairs, and a new complete seat upholstery set for both the front and rear seats is included in the spare parts package. A pair of extra gauges mounted on the steering column help monitor engine temperature and RPM.

  • Exterior condition:

An older body restoration and paint job show some wear, with a few imperfections under the paint on the rear wheel arches and the lower edges of the doors, yet the car still presents well. The undercarriage is unwelded and tidy, featuring newer shock absorbers. The original wheels are in excellent condition, complete with model-specific emblems, and the older tires are still in good shape.

For a new owner with ambitions to perform a full original restoration, many exterior spare parts are included, such as new trim and weatherstripping. Unique to the GT model are the hood pins paired with the scoop on the hood featuring 351 emblems and turn signal indicators. Not just for show, the scoop also channels fresh, cold air to the four-barrel carburetor.

  • General condition:

One of only 1,127 Mustang GTs built in 1969 with the M-code and a four-barrel carburetor, presented in a well-preserved condition following an 1980s restoration. At the other end of the spectrum, this car represents a rare version in very solid foundational condition, making it an excellent candidate for a value-secure original restoration.

Facts about the model
