"Here we have the progenitor of Volvo's model name Cross Country. This well-preserved specimen is part of the rolling Swedish cultural heritage. Our recommendation to the buyer is the usual inspection and normal service."

Description

This was a vehicle model which, according to reports at the time, also impressed the American army. This example was built in 1975 when Sweden's defense was at its largest and most lavish. The vehicle was bought in 2005 by a farmer outside Arvika. He had good experience with the model from his military service. He used the vehicle when inspecting the properties, as well as on occasional pleasure trips. The vehicle is being sold by the estate. Ever since the transfer to civilian ownership in 2005, the vehicle has been

in traffic and inspected according to prescribed intervals. Includes instruction book, control book and a copy of the military registration certificate. Robust and roadworthy vehicle.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Straight six-cylinder Volvo B30 engine with twin carburettors with a stated output of 117hp. 24 volt electrical system. Four-wheel drive with portal axles that provide extra high ground clearance. It was a cold winter day. -16 degrees below zero when we test drove the wagon. It therefore needed a little extra power, as it had been untouched since last summer, then it started fine. Went well and behaved as it should. No strange noises. It was warm and cozy in the cabin despite the cold. There is a minor oil leak at the right front wheel. See picture. The owner was reportedly aware of this and added transmission oil when necessary to avoid damage. Only test driven by us on the road, not off-road

  • Interior condition

Very well preserved inside. There is a hole in the upholstery of the driver's seat. Complete in the rear cab with folding seats and cargo protection grid. The cover over the batteries is available and included.

  • Exterior condition

Straight and nice in the bodywork. Hand-painted bodywork, as is often the case on ex-military vehicles. Good tires all around. Spare wheel and tow cable in the right place.

  • General condition

An unusually good untouched and solid TGB 11 that gives a good impression. Owned by an older gentleman who drove it sparingly. It has thus not been driven mercilessly by off-road enthusiasts, something that otherwise often occurred with this type of vehicle.

Facts about the model

The Swedish men who did their military service sometime during the years 1960 and up to 2005 have most likely come across Volvo's off-road vehicles. Ever since the 1950s Volvo has supplied all-terrain vehicles to the Swedish Armed Forces. There may still be a few camouflage-painted examples of Tgb 11 left in active military service. The model came in 1974 and replaced the smaller C202. In addition to Terrängbil 11, there were also Tgb 13 and Tgb 20, both later extended three-axle with six-wheel drive. The Tgb 11 was four-wheel drive and proved to be so durable and reliable that Volvo Trucks began manufacturing civilian examples. Cross Country C303 became the civilian name of the model. Where 30 stood for the 3.0-liter straight six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine and 3 stood for the car's total weight of three tons. It was sold on the civilian market to, among other things, the emergency services. When it was time to launch the Volvo V70 XC in 1997, Volvo Cars had to redeem the Cross Country name from Volvos truck division.
