Description
The first owner purchased it new from the VW dealer near Stockholm, mainly using it as a summer car. It spent some time in storage but was brought back into service in 2011, with a recorded mileage of 75,310 kilometers at that inspection. It remained in traffic until its last approved inspection in 2019, with 107,820 kilometers on the clock.
In 2020, the current owner acquired the car and drove it from Nörrköping to Borås, but it was running on only three cylinders. Being a skilled mechanic, the owner conducted a thorough review and initially suspected a serious issue, but it turned out to be a simple broken spark plug cable. After a review and replacing some parts, the car now runs and drives well, still delivering an impressive performance for its age.
There are a couple of minor issues to note: the gearbox linkage requires a new bushing for more precise gear selection, and a front suspension bushing needs replacement, occasionally causing a knocking sound over bumps. Additionally, there is a small rattle in the exhaust. The owner is reluctantly parting with the car due to having too many other ongoing projects and needing more space.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The remarks from the recent inspection are all easily fixable, and once addressed, the car will be approved. As previously mentioned, the gearbox bushing and front suspension bushing are straightforward to fix. Given that it hasn't been driven much in the past four years, some minor maintenance tasks are to be expected, but these are all part of routine care.
-
Interior condition
The interior is entirely original and intact. However, the driver's seat bolster is damaged, while the other seat would benefit from a thorough cleaning. The carpets are in good condition but show typical signs of wear. The door cards are complete but exhibit sun bleaching on the top edges. The headliner is in good shape, and all the instrumentation is functional. It's worth noting that the dashboard has some cracks on the plastic cover, as shown in the pictures.
-
Exterior condition
Given its 1980s vintage, the bodywork of this VW Scirocco is relatively sound. It does exhibit typical blisters around the wheel arches, lower doors, front wings, and small scrapes on the left rear panel, as seen in the pictures. Importantly, it has never suffered damage, and most of the paintwork is original and in an good condition. A significant advantage is the clean underbody, with no signs of welding or rust issues. The car is equipped with good tires and alloy wheels, though there is some curb rash in certain areas.
-
General condition
This car is a solid choice for getting back on the road, especially considering the rarity of seeing them in active use. The cosmetic repairs can be tackled gradually or during the winter, making it a manageable project for those with some automotive knowledge. It's a rewarding opportunity to bring this classic back to its former glory.
