Facts about the model

The trabants emerged during the 1950s as Germany's response to West Germany's Volkswagen and the vision of a public car. In 1954, the police agency decided to manufacture a robust small car with Lloyd as a model. Lloyd, a passenger car from Bremen, had been successful since its introduction in 1950. Due to the great commodity burst in East Germany, Trabant's karospanels (screens, door sides, etc.) were made of a special and then modern hard plastic, called duroplast.
After early 1960s, the Trabant model came to look the same throughout the rest of the GDR, namely Trabant 601. The tram was very small and quickly became outdated. The car had a two-cylinder two-stroke engine and was front-wheel drive. The development during the remaining manufacturing period was limited to a few details. It was also in a combo version. A popular name for the car in the west was "leukoplast bombs". The engine was a two-stroke engine with two cylinders and the last years the engine had a cylinder capacity of 0.6 liters with a power of 19 kW (26 hp).
The waiting times for the East German car were very long; Applicants could wait for up to 15 years on a car
