"A great car to build on."

Description

An English-built Ford Corsair with strong design cues from the American Ford Thunderbird, fully roadworthy and ready to drive. Over the years, it has been upgraded with a Ford Cortina GT engine (1500cc) and dual Weber DCOE 40 replicas from Fajs. It has also been converted to negative ground and equipped with an alternator.

The car features chrome Rostyle wheels, which look good from a distance but show some pitting, paired with new tires. The original wheels, complete with good tires and hubcaps, are included. If you're looking for a car with towing capabilities, this one fits the bill, as it is equipped with a tow bar rated for 930 kg.

This Corsair was sold new in Sweden and has had 14 owners since its first registration on May 26, 1964. The odometer on these models resets after 100,000 km, so the exact mileage of this Corsair is unknown.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car runs and sounds great in terms of the engine and drivetrain. On older cars like this, it’s common to hear a whining noise from the transmission, often at a specific speed. We haven’t driven the car beyond what is shown in the video due to slippery road conditions, but it performed well during that time. The ignition lock is worn, and some of the wiring is untidy.

  • Interior condition:

The driver's seat upholstery is cracked, as is the upper part of the dashboard. The upholstery on the right C-pillar is damaged. Some of the wiring is untidy. The instruments and radio have not been tested for functionality. Please refer to the photos for further details on the condition.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork looks good from a distance but requires touch-ups, especially on the hood. Matching paint is included. The car has not been lifted for inspection, but no serious rust was observed during a visual check. The bumpers have minor damage, and the chrome shows small areas of pitting here and there. The rubber seals are in poor condition.

  • General condition:

A solid car at its core, making it an excellent choice for a first hobby car. With a winter's worth of work, it could be significantly improved—most of which can be done without the need for expensive professional services. A perfect "do-it-yourself" project car!

Facts about the model

The Consul Corsair was manufactured by British Ford between 1963 and 1970. It was unveiled at the London Motor Show in October 1963. The Corsair featured cleaner lines than its predecessor, while its front design clearly showed a resemblance to its American sibling, the Thunderbird.

The Corsair was one of four models in the Consul family and shared many mechanical components with the Cortina, Classic, and Capri.

In the fall of 1965, the Corsair was updated, and the "Consul" name was dropped. The car received a larger V4 engine to avoid internal competition with the Cortina Mk II. However, when the Cortina Mk III was introduced in 1970, the Corsair was discontinued.
