Description
This car was built in Kalmar in the autumn of 1974 and was sold new to a university professor in Princeton, New Jersey, in the United States. After nearly 30 years and 15,000 miles, the first owner sold it to a car collector in northern Norway, in Senja, 2000 kilometers north of Narvik. The car was purchased in the spring of 2011 by Hans Hedberg, test manager at Teknikens Värld, and a coworker, who drove it for a long reportage journey through northern Norway and Sweden that summer. (Please review the attached papers.) The car was stored as a flagship in a major Volvo collection once it returned to Gothenburg. It was picked out and registered in the summer of 2020. The car was then driven in the summer of 2021, and it is now time to sell it.
Very nice and well-kept condition. There have only been three owners and 107,000 miles have been driven. There is no rust damage, however there are some little dots on the entrance thresholds. The car was repainted in its original color in the 1990s. Very nicely done and professionally painted, although few minor blisters can be spotted on top and in the back (barely visible). Mechanical condition
It starts readily and runs smoothly. Excellent gearing and braking. When an engine has been sitting in a warm garage for ten years, it may require new spark plugs and cables, as well as an oil change.

Seats, carpets, door cards, and headliner are all complete and in good condition. Everything is original. The sunroof and power windows works, but they need to be lubricated

Unusually well-kept and nice. No damage, no rust.

One of the cleanest and most clean late 164s we've seen. It will be in excellent shape with a little polish and a service.

Facts about the model
Volvo 164E, var Volvos finaste bil med rak 3 liters Volvisexa på tre liter. Denna bilmodell efterträddes 1975 av 264-modellen, med 2,7 liters V6:a (PRV-motorn). 164:an med raka sexan var dock mycket populär i USA och Kanada, bland akademiker och läkare m.fl. tack vare Volvos kvalitéts- och säkerhetsrykte. Därför valde Volvo att fortsätta bygga bilmodellen i Kalmar (handbyggd, ej löpande band) ett år till, och bara för USA/Kanada-marknaderna, trots att efterföljaren som byggdes på Torslanda redan såldes för fullt i Sverige. Eftersom aktuellt exemplar är tillverkat oktober 1975, är den internt, hos Volvo, angiven som årsmodell 1976, men Volvo valde att sälja alla som 1975:or för att inte konkurrera med 264:an som lanserades 1976 i USA.

General information about the condition of the vehicles .
- At this auction, many vehicles have been included in car collections and have been stored (mothballed) for a long time. For this reason, they are described from a collector's perspective and may need technical reviews and maintenance service - oil, battery replacement, new tires, brake review, etc. - before they can be used. .
- During the auction days information about a vehicle may be updated up to the day before the auction ends. When you bid at the end of the auction period - and also if you have made an earlier bid - we therefore ask you to read the descriptions carefully, in case something has been changed due to new information.
Important to know before placing your bids!
- Once you have called in an item and the reservation price is reached we want you to deposit the entire purchase amount into our client funds account before retrieval can take place.
- When you need to retrieve a called in object we want you to examine it carefully. If you consider that the item does not match our description you do not need to complete the purchase. In this case the deposited purchase sum and the entry fee are refunded.
- If you do not examine the item on the spot the call charge will be debited, but you do not have to complete the deal.
- If you make the entire purchase exclusively at a distance you have 14 days to cancel, but must return the item at your own expense.
- Your shipping costs and other costs are not reimbursed when the right of withdrawal is exercised. Swedish court applies.
