Description

This was the jewel in the crown for the previous owner that owned the car since 1985; unfortunately he has now passed way. The car has been stored in a dry garage for the past 20+ years; hence it’s been preserve very well. The car is now polished and starts and drives with a good strong engine and gearbox, exhaust is blowing and rattling from the rear pipe and the brake need an inspection.

The car comes with older MOT/inspection, 1991 recorded mileage of 94828 KM and 2003 98717 KM according to the old MOT papers, all other documentation has been lost since the owner died.
Everyone that’s views this car falls in love with her, it’s a fantastic opportunity to own such a rare iconic English classic, and a smart investment both for your pocket and heart. Bentley only ever built 312 cars and this one came from the world famous coach builder H. J. Mulliner. Only 3 Swedish owners, and from trusted sources we can now update that the car was imported from italy in 197
.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition: Grade 3

The car starts and drives with no problems, good strong engine and gearbox, the brakes need an inspection and the exhaust rattles, otherwise very smooth sounding engine.

  • Interior condition: Grade 4

All original features with nice wooden trim, leathers seat, headliner and mats. The seat could be improved with leather clean and treatment and a proper interior reconditioning

  • Exterior condition: Grade 3

All original paint nothing shows that it’s been repainted, all alloy body panels some blister spot around the sills and wheel arches due to the alloy oxidation. Paint work cracks around driver’s side rear wing and boot area. Now polished and gleaming once again.

  • General condition: Grade 3

A wonderful original and non-renovated Bentley that’s totally complete will require service and some small paint work fixes to be 100%.

Facts about the model

When the S3 Continental was launched in 1962, the four horizontal headlights on the S3 saloon would not adapt to the slab-sided Park Ward drophead coupe and 2-door saloon, and an Alvis-style vertical stack was dismissed. Instead, four controversial angled headlights were installed, and quickly accepted as iconic. James Young still offered a coachbuilt saloon and Mulliner the 4-door Flying Spur, but Mulliner and Park Ward merged in 1961 and both names appeared jointly on their designs after 1963.

The Bentley S3 Continental benefitted from a higher 9:1 compression ratio and larger 2-inch SU carburettors on the alloy V-8 engine, which boosted it to 210hp, resulting in a top speed of 120mph. The S3 also introduced flashing indicators and side lamps, combined in a single unit in the James Young and Mulliner designs, and new smaller bumpers were fitted to domestic models. Later MPW drophead coupes and 2-door saloons can be recognized by a full-length chrome strip along the side, following a customer's request, and also mouldings over the wheel arches.

In all 312 Bentley Continental S3s were built and a number of them were badged as Rolls-Royces, with a correspondingly higher price. The S3 was the last Rolls-Royce or Bentley built with a separate chassis and the Continental name would disappear in 1966, not to be revived until 1984. Enthusiasts are divided over the merits of the designs S3, though mechanically they are superior to the S2 whose V-8 suffered teething troubles.
