"A wonderful car for those who appreciate the English sixties. Mechanically, everything feels very solid, and with a little love and care, this will be a rare gem to cruise in on beautiful summer days."

Description

This was BMC's premium car, developed in the 1960s to compete with brands like Jaguar. The car is in good usable condition—ready to drive as it is or, alternatively, restore the small rust spots and apply a fresh coat of paint.

According to our research, the car was originally sold in southern Sweden and has since had four owners. The mileage is most likely 126,480 km, based on a thorough review of the extensive documentation, including receipts and inspection records.

This is a rare car, with only five known examples in Sweden featuring this engine. It comes with a six-cylinder engine producing 122 hp, paired with a three-speed gearbox with overdrive. Additionally, the car features a freewheel system, which was not uncommon for its time.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

All functions in the car are in working order. It starts easily, and the engine runs smoothly and evenly. According to the owner, the car shifts normally, and the brakes operate evenly. However, it has not been test-driven due to summer tires and winter road conditions.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in very good condition, though there is some improvement potential regarding the floor mat. The leather is well-preserved, as are the wood panels, door panels, and headliner. All dashboard instruments are fully functional.

  • Exterior condition:

The body is in usable condition. There is rust at the rear edge of both front fenders, which has been touched up. Additionally, there are some minor surface rust spots, a few small dents, and some scratches. The car would benefit from a thorough polishing.

It has not been inspected on a lift, but from what we can see, it looks good (see photos). The rear section of the exhaust system appears to have been replaced recently.

  • General condition:

A charming and rare English classic that exudes elegance and 1960s luxury. The car is perfectly presentable and can be enjoyed as it is. However, with some exterior work and investment, it has the potential to become truly stunning.

Owner's comment

As I need to reduce my collection, this car is now available for sale. Ideally, it will go to someone with an appreciation for style and a deep respect for the heritage of British automobiles.

Facts about the model

The Wolseley 6/99 and 6/110 were the final large Wolseley models, designed by Pininfarina with additional styling input from BMC’s design team. These models shared their basic structure with the Austin A99 Westminster and the Vanden Plas Princess 3-Litre. Production began in 1959, with updates and a renaming occurring in 1961, after which the model continued as the Wolseley 6/110 until 1968.

Interestingly, in Denmark, these cars were marketed under the name Wolseley 300.

At the same time, BMC introduced two other Farina-designed models: the compact Austin A40 Farina and the midsized Wolseley 15/60 along with its derivatives. While they shared a design resemblance, the midsized Wolseley did not share body panels or many components with the larger 6/99 and 6/110 models.
