"An opportunity to continue restoring a nice fin-tail Mercedes."

Description

This 1964 MB 190c is a partially started project in very good condition. The car has been off the road since 1981 and has been stored in a dry, heated garage during that time. Restoration work began in the 1980s and continued for a long time by the previous owner. Most of the mechanical components have been inspected, and much of it has been addressed. The exhaust system and hoses have been replaced, among other things. The engine has been rebuilt but has not been started since being reinstalled in the car.

The electrical system needs to be checked and repaired, and some bodywork remains to be done to restore the car. The interior is in good condition with original upholstery. The car has only had two owners since new. Additionally, a variety of necessary components are included, both loose and in boxes, such as front fenders, hood, front bumper, and two radiator grilles, among other items, as shown in the pictures. The car is in a condition that provides a good foundation for further restoration.

The current odometer reading is 6,690 km, but it resets at 100,000 km. We do not know how many times it has reset.

Facts about the model

Model W110, also known as the "fintail" model, was produced between August 1959 and July 1971. Characteristic of the model, upon its introduction, was the design trend of the time featuring panoramic windows and fins. The model was manufactured as four-door sedans as well as two-door coupés and convertibles. During the early 1960s, design trends evolved rapidly, and by the mid-1960s, the panoramic windows and fins were considered outdated. This led Mercedes to introduce a new model, the W108, in August 1965. Model W111 in four-door sedan versions such as 220/220S/220SE was discontinued for the 1966 model year, but a version, the new 230S, continued alongside the new W108 model until the 1968 model year. However, two-door versions remained in production in various variants until 1971. One reason for this was that these cars, from the outset, did not have pronounced fins and were considered beautiful style icons, which is why they, with some changes, remained popular throughout the decade and into the 1970s.

As Mercedes often does, they developed a simpler version once the S models had been established and gained a foothold. So, between April and the end of the 1968 model year, model W110 was launched. It had the same body with fins as the W111 but with a shorter wheelbase and a shorter and simpler front end with, among other things, round single headlights. Additionally, the model W110 only had four-cylinder engines, both petrol and diesel. The exception was the new 230S, which was produced from 1966 to 1968, which was a hybrid between the W111 and W110. Eventually, they also developed the estate/wagon version Universal/Safari from 1966 to 1968. Model W110 was succeeded by the model W114/115, the so-called compact model. Production of model W110 amounted to 628,282 units, many of which served successfully as taxi cars worldwide.
