"Just received a start up service and now runs and drives, brake cylinder underneath missing can be stop via handbrake and needs a new 6 volt battery."

Description

This wonderful first year model PV is in great condition and has a super solid body with no rust, which is not surprising given how thick the metal work was back in the 1940's. It was purchased in 1996 and has been in a collection since then. Its history is unknown because, like many old cars, it dropped out of the Swedish register with its older registration number "S52652" from Värmland and was reregistered in the early 1980's. The brake master underneath was lost while being repaired; replacements are available. Other than the brakes, the car runs and drives nicely and only requires a final inspection/MOT.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The 1.4-liter, 40-horsepower B4B engine from Volvo. The transmission is a three-speed original with an unsynchronized first gear. The engine starts easily and runs smoothly. The brake cylinder is missing, and the battery requires replacement. It can be driven and stopped with the handbrake.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in good condition, with original seats and door cards. The dashboard and instrumentation, as well as the rubber floor mats, are very nice. The headliner is original and complete but there is some minor damage around the rear window (see photo).

  • Exterior condition:

The bodywork and underbody are solid with no rust issues, and the paintwork is clean and nice with some minor dents and paint scratches to be expected for its age. Original features include pop out indicators, chrome hub caps, and front and rear split windows. The good chrome work around the rear bumper has some damage (see photo).

  • General condition:

Great piece of Volvo history that still runs better than most modern cars. It just needs the brakes fixed and you'll have a wonderful vintage Volvo to enjoy.
