"When Japanese motorcycles arrived in the 1960s, there was some skepticism at first, but it quickly faded as they went on to completely dominate the market. This bike is one of the early pioneers that appeared in the mid-1960s and became a great success in terms of functionality, performance, and quality. Something this machine, 60 years later, clearly demonstrates. Today it is in beautifully restored original condition and works perfectly in every respect. Just kick it into life, ride, and enjoy the experience."

Description

This motorcycle was originally sold in Sweden and registered here on January 1, 1967. It was first registered to its initial owner on April 2, 1968, in Jönköping County with the registration number F659. It then had a couple of subsequent owners in the Jönköping area before later moving to Stockholm, where it was issued the registration number A5538. At that point it was acquired by a well-known racing and motorcycle personality and subsequently restored by a Suzuki enthusiast. Up until 2015, it had only covered 743 Swedish mil (7,430 km). During the restoration, the engine was replaced with an earlier K10 engine, though to the same specifications. The current owner acquired the bike in March 2023. He is a long-time motorcycle enthusiast who bought this lightweight for nostalgic reasons—back in the late 1960s he owned an identical model and even rode it round trip to the Isle of Man to watch the TT races.

Included with the motorcycle are the original owner’s manuals in both English and Swedish, various documents and literature, as well as a detailed description of the restoration work. One set of keys is included, along with several useful spare parts.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

It starts easily and runs flawlessly in the engine, gearbox, and on the road. All components such as steering, clutch, gear shifting, and brakes are in good mechanical condition. Fine exhaust with correct accessories, as well as chain and chain guard in good condition. The chain guard has been replaced with one from a period 50 cc model, but the original is included. Unusual and hard to find.

  • Interior condition

Fine vinyl seat in original specification. Hand grips and various controls are in well-preserved original condition. Gauges and indicator lights function as they should.

  • Exterior condition

Fine original-spec blue paintwork along with excellent chrome, emblems, and lighting details. At the time of inspection, one rear indicator light was not functioning, but this has now been rectified. Wheels with fine chrome and spokes, as well as good tires. Nice luggage rack.

  • General condition

The design, condition, and performance make this lightweight motorcycle a wonderful dose of nostalgia. When the definition of the lightweight class in Sweden changed from 75 kg to 125 cc, bikes with the smaller engines quickly became less interesting, which is why a well-preserved example like this is now quite rare. Today, this early Japanese model is regarded as a fine little 1960s classic with noteworthy enthusiast and collector value.

Owner's comment

After an eventful journey in the late 1960s to the Isle of Man on a K11 80 cc together with a friend, I spent many years searching for a similar Suzuki—purely out of nostalgia. I eventually found this fine example, but with advancing age, perhaps a few extra kilos, and several other classic motorcycles in my collection, I now feel it is time for it to move on to another enthusiast.

Facts about the model

The Suzuki Sport 80 K10 and K11 were classic two-stroke motorcycles from the mid to late 1960s, known for their lightweight design and sporty performance for the era. At the height of the model’s popularity, it was considered an excellent beginner’s bike—reliable, fun to ride, and easy to maintain with good availability of spare parts. The engine was a single-cylinder, air-cooled two-stroke unit of 79 cc, featuring a four-speed gearbox and producing 7.3 horsepower. Top speed was approximately 95 km/h (59 mph).

It just qualified as a lightweight at 75 kg, but in order to meet this requirement in Sweden, the oil injection system had to be disabled—meaning riders had to manually mix fuel and oil. The early models were equipped with drum brakes.
