Description

The sporty Peugeot 205 GTI is now considered a classic, though many still prefer the term "youngtimer." It's interesting and exciting that special editions made in small numbers specifically for the Swedish market have now become collector’s items, especially among French enthusiasts.

This particular car was bought new by a man from Jämtland, who soon left for UN peacekeeping service abroad, so the car was driven very little in its early years. In the winter of 1995, it sustained some damage when it ended up in a snowbank beside the road. The car was sold to a workshop owner who repaired it, had a full respray done, and replaced the plastic trims. After the repairs, the car was sold to the workshop owner’s brother. He has kept the car ever since and now wishes to sell it. The car has had 5 registered owners, with 2 primary users. All owners have been older individuals, so the car has been spared from the typical abuse that often affects vehicles owned by racing-inspired young drivers.

The car comes with a spare wheel, jack, and owner’s manual. Over the years, it has been serviced by the owner’s brother at his garage and by the owner himself. It has always been driven on roads free from salt.

Images and details of the car’s condition have been provided by the owner. BWA has not inspected the vehicle in person.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car is equipped with a 1.9-liter, four-cylinder engine producing an indicated 122 horsepower, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. According to the owner, both the engine and the gearbox are functioning without issues. In 2022, a major service was performed, including a timing belt replacement. Since then, the car has driven approximately 10 000 kilometers.

  • Interior condition:

The car features a well-preserved and attractive interior, with the condition exceeding the average for this model. The floor mats have been protected by rubber mats, minimizing wear. The driver's seat has a few broken seams that need repair. Notable features for the Classic Sport edition include the Luisi sports steering wheel and a wooden gearshift knob, with the car's number (46) clearly visible at the center of the steering wheel. The Classic Sport also came equipped with a manual sunroof and electric windows. The trunk area would benefit from a cleaning to restore its appearance. See photos for more details.

  • Exterior condition:

The car was repainted in 1998, and over the years, it has developed some paint peeling, stone chips, and some surface rust, which is visible in the photos. The body has never had rust holes or required welding. The underside remains in good condition. During the repaint in 1998, the plastic trim on the sides of the body was replaced, and the original red aluminum trims were painted black. Additionally, the decals and several plastic labels featuring the "Classic Sport" text were removed during the respray. The car now requires a new coat of paint to restore its full beauty.

  • General condition:

A well-functioning GTI that has covered under 180 000 kilometers in Sweden. This is the perfect car for those who appreciate the limited Swedish special edition, the Classic Sport. The choice is yours: drive it as-is in everyday traffic or opt for a full restoration to bring it to its pristine condition.
