"Classic, refined, and irresistible driving pleasure, and this particular example conveys much of what makes the model a particularly beloved favorite among car enthusiasts."

Description

The car was delivered new by Höjdéns Bil in Slottstaden AB in Malmö to the ICA store owner Malmborgs Livs in January 1974. In 1977, the current owner purchased the car, drove it for a few years before receiving a new company BMW E28 in 1982. He then sold it to a work colleague with a handshake agreement. However, the handshake didn’t hold, and the former colleague sold the car to a dentist in Gothenburg instead. But, colleague Näslund did buy the car back from a dental student, and the current owner actively tracked it down again in 1994, buying it back that same year.

A few years later, the car underwent an engine overhaul with a rebuilt head, a new interior, and a fresh paint job. There have been several trips to Italy, and around 40,000 km have been added over the past 30 years. Today, the car has a total mileage of 177,800 km. The most recent—and final—inspection was completed on July 12, 2023.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine features a refurbished head with new original camshafts from CC Motor in Eskilstuna from the late 1990s. An electronic ignition system has also been installed. The engine hesitates a bit at full throttle, and it seems that a carburetor overhaul/cleaning could address this issue. The car feels stable at high speeds, even during hard braking, and is comfortably responsive on the road. Well-tuned yellow Koni shocks are installed all around, contributing to that feeling. The gearbox has a sportily familiar feel, and the overall shift quality is smooth and enjoyable.

  • Interior condition:

The interior features neat vinyl upholstery from a German supplier, installed by CC Motor in Eskilstuna along with the carpets in the mid-1990s. The center console is from a 1750 Berlina, with some marks and speaker holes on the sides. The headliner and door panels are in excellent condition. The front windshield has a crack in the center, which has been deliberately left intact to preserve a decal from a special driving event in Vaxholm. The rear parcel shelf is covered in speaker fabric, which has faded where the Italian "PROVA" sign once sat.

  • Exterior condition:

The car was repainted in the mid-1990s by a recommended painter, who worked alongside the body shop that replaced the sills. However, the painter seems to have been a bit careless with the prep work. Today, there are several cracks in the paint and some areas of damage. From a distance, it’s not noticeable, and the car presents well before a closer inspection. It’s something one can live with, and in return, you don't need to be overly cautious with the paint.

The car is currently fitted with Historic Racing-classified Minilite replicas with newer Pirelli tires, but the real gems are the 7.5-inch wide original Borrani steel rims, which are not the often-welded type. These are, of course, included. The car also looks great with the two-line registration plate at the rear.

  • General condition:

A pleasant overall impression despite the imperfections in the paintwork. Enthusiast use becomes a bit easier in a way, as during meets, rallies, and other drives, you don't have to worry as much about stone chips, door dings, or other external impacts. It also offers a kind of undisturbed driving pleasure.

Facts about the model

The model had a long production cycle from 1963 to 1977. It was a sporty enthusiast’s Alfa right from the start, with engine sizes ranging from 1.3 to 2.0 liters. The most powerful factory-tuned production car for racing homologation was the GTA, equipped with a two-liter engine producing over 230 horsepower. Today, all versions hold their value and continue to attract enthusiasts, and perhaps this final version with the two-liter engine, refined chassis, and subtly modified design details is the most attractive right now.
