"A relatively unique MG from the late 1940s in an unscrewed original condition. Certainly, refreshed and maintained over the years but it has been owned by enthusiasts who have cared for it. A time capsule."

Description

This vehicle was registered for traffic on 27 June 1947. The current owner, a well-known figure in the motor history hobby for many years, took over the vehicle from his wife in August 2023. She was registered as owner for 46 years and it has been part of the collection throughout this period. Before it was acquired by the family, it was owned from August 1967 by the renowned motor historian Björn Eric Lindh. According to him, it was then in untouched original condition, which it still is. Before that it was owned by another enthusiast in the motor history hobby based in Sigtuna.

The seller and Bilwebauctions chose for logistical reasons to leave the vehicle in the collection during inspection and photography.

The vehicle comes with literature and documents.

Owner's comment

Our father has always been an enthusiastic motoring historian and over the years many fine and well-maintained cars have passed through his collection. He has always looked after, serviced and kept them in excellent and roadworthy condition. It has been a lifestyle and a wealth of friends, cars and memories that he and we as a family carry with us. Now it is time for the next chapter for us and the cars in the collection.

Facts about the model

MG Morris Garages was founded by W.R. Morris. He initially sold bicycles and later automobiles. From 1913 he manufactured cars under his own name, Morris Motor Company. He simultaneously retained Morris Garages as a separate company and from 1924 he sold Morris cars with tuned engines and special bodywork as M.G. cars.

During the 1930s a number of different models were produced and named as letter types, including J-type and P-type. PA came in 1934 with a more powerful chassis and engine than its predecessor the J-type, and in 1935 came PB with a larger engine, now 939 cc, twin SU carburettors and 43 bhp. According to records, 521 vehicles of model PB were manufactured, of which only 99 were four-seaters. In 1935 W.R. Morris also sold MG to the Nuffield Organisation. In 1968 MG became part of British Leyland and in 1980 it was all over. Though the marque lived on with Rover and later BMW but in 2005 it was all over again. However, the Nanjing Automobile Group has now dusted off the name MG. But that is quite another story.
