Description

The first owner acquired this T2 in February 1977. Over the years, it surely must have served its purpose, transporting as it was designed to do. Many had to endure tough times and have since disappeared. The current owner bought it four years ago and has addressed rust issues and partially restored the vehicle. It is currently drivable, but some details need to be addressed for it to pass inspection. Currently unregistered. The car comes with a variety of documents, including the instruction manual, older inspection reports, and more.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts and rolls well. It has been driven relatively little in recent years and needs a thorough check-up. The undercarriage has not been inspected on a lift, but it appears to be in decent condition underneath. Rust repairs have been carried out, but the exact quality of the work is difficult to assess.

  • Interior condition:

The interior has held up reasonably well over the years and is largely in its original condition, with some wear and tear.

  • Exterior condition:

A new paint job was done in recent years, but it could be described as a "garage paint job" with some imperfections. The glass, rubber details, and tires are in okay condition for their age. There is wear and tear in the engine compartment and trunk. The bed and various panels are in good condition. Some elements are missing, such as chrome bezels for the headlights.

  • General condition:

Facts about the model

After Volkswagen resumed car production following World War II, it wasn't long before they also introduced a utility vehicle, known as Type 2 or Transporter. The demand was immense, and they sold everything they could produce. After the iconic Generation T1, produced as model years 1950-1967 and nicknamed "Split-Window" for its divided front windshield, an updated Generation T2 was introduced as the model years 1968-1979. With its curved one-piece front windshield, it earned the nickname "Bay-Window." The new model was 16 cm longer and had a stiffer body, providing higher load capacity. It featured a new rear axle, a larger engine, and improved comfort. For the 1971 model year, front disc brakes were introduced. There were various cosmetic upgrades over the years as well. The engine also underwent technical enhancements and received larger displacement and horsepower over the years. For the 1976 model year, a two-liter engine with 70 horsepower was introduced. Production in Germany ceased in October 1979, marking the transition to Generation T3.
