"An impressive 90s classic with technology that was at the forefront at the time, such as four-valve top and a rear wing that adjusted at higher speeds. A very unusual creation spiced up with well-known names. Irmscher built it and the sports seats are from Recaro."

Description

The EVO 500 homologation version was never sold in Sweden, and this example had an owner in Germany until the year 2000 when it was exported. The car is originally equipped with central locking, alarm, differential lock, AC (empty of refrigerant), electric wing mirrors and electric headlight beam level adjustment. The rear wing adjusts seamlessly in relation to speed. The current owner took over the car in 2008 and has a very strong interest in and knowledge of the model series. The car makes a very good impression and is fully drivable. During the last 1,000 kilometers, the following parts have been replaced: steering rods, lambda sensor, exhaust system from Simons Sport including race specification catalytic converters, support bearing to propshaft, engine mounts, water pump with belt, viscous fan and pulley, gas springs to rear axle, all fluids, battery and complete camshaft drive including timing rails, sprockets and tensioner. It requires inspection no later than 2026-09-30. Documentation in the form of inspection reports and receipts will be included with the purchase, as well as instruction manual and service book. Two sets of keys are included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts and runs well in engine and gearbox. The engine has a characteristic mechanical sound that disappears once it reaches operating temperature. This is not a fault but a characteristic feature – see and hear the sound in the film. When the engine is warm it runs quietly and smoothly. One of the lifters may possibly need replacement, according to the owner. Since the air conditioning condenser was replaced in 2006, it has not been recharged with gas. The oil plug has been changed at some point and is not original. A minor oil leak exists under the engine, likely between the oil pan and the engine block.

  • Interior condition

The special interior trim for the EVO 500 version is in good condition. A modern media player with Bluetooth is installed. The original cassette radio is included with the purchase. The headliner has partially come loose and has therefore been reattached.

  • Exterior condition

The paintwork is in good condition overall. Before the current owner took over the car, it received a complete respray in 2001. In 2009, the sills, front fenders and front section were repaired. A repair is visible at the left rear wheel arch. A few stone chips are present in the windscreen. The adjustable rear wing on the boot lid functions but has a number of minor cracks. With age, the fibreglass has also settled somewhat, which means that the fasteners on the spoiler are visible as round dots on the upper side of the wing. Side trim and original rear lights are included with the purchase. Above the rear lights, a previous owner has fitted small imitation carbon fiber details.

  • General condition

According to interest clubs in Germany, approximately 140 examples of the Opel Omega EVO 500 are estimated to remain. This is therefore a chance to acquire a rare collector car in good condition.

Facts about the model

Omega was the new name following Rekord when a new large Opel model was launched in 1986. In 1991, a homologation version was developed for the German DTM racing series. The Omega EVO 500 was built by Opel together with tuning company Irmscher. It was based on the three-litre straight-six with four-valve technology found in the Omega 3000. The EVO 500 version's engine featured, among other things, a different block that was stronger in the bottom end, a different throttle body, air mass meter, cylinder head, camshafts and pistons. The engine produced 230 bhp, which was sufficient for a top speed of 249 km/h and an acceleration time of 0–100 km/h in 7.5 seconds. On the outside, the EVO 500 stood out with a large front spoiler, fender flares and a rear wing that extended 80 mm at speeds above 70 km/h. 18-inch wheels and Recaro seats in fabric/leather were two other equipment details. Despite the name EVO 500, only 321 examples were built in 1991–1992.
