"Fully restored and unused, offering familiar and honest driving joy—true to a simple and characterful English recipe."

Description

Originally delivered new in Sweden in July 1964, this car was last inspected in September 1990. The current owner (or their estate) purchased it in 1995, and it was restored to original specification by Fleming Madsen in Kristdala, a specialist in English classics. Since the restoration, the car has barely been driven—only a few kilometers—and has not been inspected. The interior and soft top still need to be installed, the carburetors require some adjustment, and overall, the car needs a general shake-down, as is typical after a full restoration.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily, with a distinctly characteristic sound from the starter motor’s Bendix gear. The carburetors need some adjustment and tuning. The brakes feel solid, as does the chassis, though there is an occasional light clunking sound, likely coming from something that needs adjusting in the rear suspension.

  • Interior condition:

Startar lätt, med ett tydligt karaktäristiskt ljud från startmotorns Bendixdrev. Förgasarna behöver justeras och trimmas in. Bromsarna känns stabila, liksom chassit, även om ett lätt klonkande ljud hörs ibland – troligen från något som behöver justeras i bakvagnen.

  • Exterior condition:

The entire body has been freshly repainted in the original Tahiti Blue color, including the underbody. Additionally, the new soft top has not yet been installed—the design requires a small front crossbar to be attached to the top itself (see pictures). The wire wheels have been restored and are fitted with new tires in the original dimensions.

  • General condition:

Properly and thoughtfully restored with attention to original specifications—presented in a very attractive condition.

Facts about the model

The 1960s MG Midget was originally launched in 1961 as a further development of the Austin-Healey Sprite MkI—widely known as the Frogeye. The 1964 model belongs to the MkII generation. The corresponding Austin-Healey version was called the Sprite MkIII, and together these siblings are often referred to as “Spridgets.”

The Midget MkII marked an important modernization of the model, without sacrificing the accessible driving joy that made it so beloved. It became more practical and appealing for everyday use, now featuring roll-up side windows, quarter vents, front disc brakes, and semi-elliptic rear leaf springs. In 1966, the Midget MkII and Sprite MkIII were replaced by the Midget MkIII and Sprite MkIV, which came with a larger 1275cc engine and a more traditional folding soft top.
