"This car has been a huge part of the owner's life, bringing joy to both him and his wife. However, as pensioners, it is no longer practical for them to climb in and out of it. Every part of this car has been meticulously renovated inside and out, and it has only been driven during the summer months. It still looks and drives well. The car is inspection exempt forever. A simple service is recommended since it hasn't been driven much this year."

Description

The car was imported from California and registered in Sweden in 1992, with approximately 81,000 miles on the odometer, as confirmed by older service stamps in the service book. The current owner bought the car in 1992 from the Swedish man who imported it. While the car was in solid condition, free of major damage and excessive rust, it required a complete renovation due to prolonged exposure to the strong California sun. This extensive project took 14 years to complete and is fully documented in text form and with a photo library.

Every component has been reviewed, renovated, or replaced. Although the original engine and gearbox are included, the owner opted for a newly rebuilt engine and gearbox from another Saab enthusiast, which was a better option. The comprehensive body renovation included rust repair in the frame sills, epoxy repainting of the frame, and full fiberglass body restoration and repainting. All electrical wiring and components were reviewed and replaced, along with a full overhaul of the cooling system, brakes, suspension, rear axle, and exhaust.

The interior seats, headliner, and panels were replaced and handcrafted by the professional company Top n Trim. Essentially, nothing was overlooked. The renovation was completed in 2007, and since then, the car has only been driven during the summer months, covering approximately 27,000 miles in total. Even 17 years after the renovation, the car still looks great and is regularly reviewed and serviced by the owner.

Additionally, the purchase includes loads of spare parts, ensuring continued care and maintenance for this beautifully renovated car.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car runs and drives very well, starting easily with a smooth gearshift and solid brakes. It hasn't been driven much this year, so a simple service is recommended. Like all V4 engines, it needs to be properly warmed up to operating temperature, or a slight carb adjustment might be necessary. Otherwise, there are no other remarks. The car has great wheels with good tires.

  • Interior condition:

Interior looks like new, with no damage to the front seats, carpets, headliner, dashboard, door cards, and even the boot space. Everything matches the overall condition of the car, presenting a cohesive and well-maintained appearance.

  • Exterior condition:

The fiberglass bodywork is straight with no blisters or cracks, featuring good matching shut lines and panel gaps. There are no damages or rust on the underbody or frame. The paintwork has a bright finish with only a few minor scratches and a small touch-up on the rear corner edge of the rear wing (see pictures).

  • General condition:

This is one of the nicest Sonett III models you'll find, with an unparalleled investment of time, money, and effort in its renovation. With just routine servicing and maintenance, you can look forward to years of trouble-free motoring ahead.
