Description

This model is the first that Mercedes developed five years after the war. With the advent of the so-called German economic miracle in the early 1950s, there was also a need for prestige cars. The model is called Adenauer, although it was not until 1956 that Adenauer was elected Chancellor. This car was purchased by Director Åhlen of Åhlen & Holm AB and used from 1952 as the company's executive car. In the late 1950s, the car was sold to a dentist in Umeå. After another ten years, the car was owned by a customs officer in Falkenberg. The car was scrapped but remained in a garage outside Steninge in Halland when the current owner came across it. He bought the car in 1979 and took it to Strängnäs. According to the owner’s capability, the renovation began with the car being dismantled and then a body lift. He sanded down the body, and it turned out that most of the body and tube chassis were in good condition. Since the owner was often in England, he took the car to the specialist firm Fernbank Motor Company LTD in southern England, where the car was completely renovated. Much of the renovation work is documented in paper photos, and all receipts for spare parts purchased in Germany have been retained. It should be particularly noted that the owner found an unemployed former leather upholsterer who had worked for many years at Austin. He made a new headliner and carpets for the interior and the trunk. The seats and side panels were upholstered in the finest English leather in the shade "tan." The current owner painted the car in German green because he did not want to drive in black diplomatic color. The car was completed in 1999 after three years in England. During the current owner's time, the car has been driven 200–300 miles each year.

Facts about the model

When Mercedes-Benz introduced its large 300, it quickly became the representation vehicle above all others. This was Mercedes-Benz's first true new design after World War II, filled with modern technology such as a large six-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft and aluminum cylinder head.

The car, nicknamed after the Federal Republic's first Chancellor, Konrad Adenauer, is fully six-seated and was built as both a closed and open model. In early 1954, the 300B came with slightly higher power output from the three-liter six-cylinder engine and better brakes. In September 1955, it was succeeded by the 300C, featuring a single-joint swing axle and automatic transmission as an option. The car with Mercedes-Benz internal code W186 was replaced in 1957 by the W189, with a more modern front and rear, larger glass areas, and a range of other changes, including fuel injection.
