Description
A newer, refurbished fuel-injected engine was installed along with a matching fuel tank, and the brakes were overhauled. The interior was completely redone as well. By the summer of 2017, the restoration was complete, and it passed inspection without any remarks. It was then taken on a long European journey, crossing the Alps down to Croatia without any issues.
As for the camping equipment, it was fitted with a convertible sofa bed, curtains, and storage compartments. It also received a roof rack, camping table, awning, front stone guard, and Mad-Matz blackout curtains—all included in the sale. The vehicle was professionally rust-proofed at a Dinitrol workshop in the autumn of 2019, both in cavities and underneath.
The current owner acquired the vehicle on June 5, 2023, through Fahlke Classic Cars and has since driven approximately 5,000 trouble-free kilometers on enjoyable holiday trips. It was last serviced 3,000 kilometers ago and has always been stored in a garage from October to April.
Included with the vehicle is a binder containing receipts and photos from the restoration, as well as various literature. One set of keys is included. The vehicle is equipped with a tow hitch, practical for a bike rack.
Additional items included:
Original BusEyes screen cover for the windshield
Sun awning
Car cover (Coverzone Stormforce all-weather four-layer cover)
Chrome trim for the windshield, new in box

Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine starts easily and runs smoothly and quietly. During a short test drive on small coastal roads, everything—from steering, clutch, and gear changes to handling and brakes—performed well.
When parked, it releases a small drop of oil, which is common for these engines. It is likely due to a leaking pushrod tube. According to “expert opinion,” this is nothing to worry about, but it is advisable to keep an eye on the oil level.
The car has not been inspected on a lift, but what could be seen appeared sound, and the vehicle has been treated with Dinitrol rust protection. -
Interior condition
A nice interior with good seating comfort. Door panels, trim, carpets, and headliner are all in equally fine condition. The steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are also in very good shape. Everything functions as intended, except the radio, which is not connected.
The camping interior is in excellent condition and features a so-called “rock and roll” sofa, which folds out into a full-width bed measuring two meters in length. With a simple motion, it folds back into a sofa. Beneath it is a storage compartment for bedding and more.
The side cabinet is custom-built in teak, with drawers and cupboards, topped with a Perstorp “Virrvarr” work surface. The flooring is in very nice condition, decorated with VW logos. Cushions and curtains are included. -
Exterior condition
A clean and glossy body, with chrome, glass, trim, emblems, and lighting details in equally fine condition. There is a small paint blister beneath one of the rear lights. The side door cannot be locked from the outside and is somewhat stiff. Nice wheels with newer tires. The wooden slats on the roof rack have been refurbished.

General condition
The VW Type 2 camper is highly sought after all over the world. This example, with its condition, history, equipment, and bright, cheerful appearance, is no exception—quite the opposite. It is not only a classic with a capital “C,” but also highly usable and a wonderful travel companion.

Facts about the model
Following the iconic first generation, the T1 (model years 1950–1967), known as the “Split Window” due to its divided windshield, an updated second generation, the T2, was introduced and produced from 1968 to 1979. With its curved, one-piece windshield, it earned the nickname “Bay Window.”
The new model was 16 cm longer, featured a more rigid body, and offered increased load capacity. It was equipped with a new rear axle, larger engines, and improved comfort and safety. From the 1971 model year, it also received front disc brakes. Over the years, various cosmetic updates were made, and the engine saw both technical improvements and increases in displacement and power. By the 1976 model year, for example, a 2.0-liter engine producing 70 hp was available. Production in Germany ended in October 1979, making way for the next generation, the T3.
A niche that developed early on was the camper versions of the VW Transporter. These ranged from simple setups with curtains and air mattresses to fully built-in interiors and various conversions offering partial or full standing height. The VW bus, in all its forms, also became closely associated with the “flower power” and surf culture of the era. Both home-built and factory-produced campers emerged, becoming synonymous with camping and freedom.
