"Interesting vintage Ford in a representative condition with a currently undiscovered and most likely exciting Swedish history."

Description

It was registered in Sweden in June 1980, and some details suggest that the car has been re-registered and has been in traffic in Sweden before. The speedometer is calibrated in km/h, and a typical heating package on the passenger side may indicate that this is a Ford that may even have been assembled in Sweden or Denmark. Sandahls acquired it for their collection in 2002. Through more diligent research and with the help of the National Archives, it's possible to learn more about the car's history. Unfortunately, there are no documents or records with the owner. At the time of the car's registration, the rule about exemption from inspection for vehicles older than 1951 applied. It is reported that the car's frame number (which is the same as the transmission and engine number) can be found in three places, only one of which, the front, is visible with the body mounted. At registration, the body number 7516 is indicated as the chassis number. We have not looked for the number on the frame during documentation.

The car comes from the Sandahl collections, which Bilweb Auctions AB will sell in early spring over four different themes; starting with some of the family's popular workhorses, primarily Mercedes, Volkswagen, and a wildcard, then half a dozen exclusive fine Rolls-Royces and Jaguars, followed by a selection of early Ford cars and a Chevrolet from the infancy and youth of motoring. The last will be nine different prize-winning and representative full-size USA cars from 1959, the year when the fins were at their largest.

Today, Sandahls is one of Sweden's largest family-owned transport conglomerates. The company was founded in Värnamo in 1949. Older generations have in their private museum collected about 40 cars under various themes for many years. Bilweb Auctions AB has now been tasked with selling these in four rounds in February, March, and April this year.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

BWA hasn't started the car, but the engine does turn over with the starter. The car is easy to maneuver and needs a thorough inspection and service. It sports attractive red wire wheels paired with older, yet still serviceable tires.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is complete, featuring a nice dashboard with vintage gauges, bakelite knobs, and extra gauges for amps and oil pressure. The seats show some wear; the front seat is slightly sun-bleached, with small holes dotted around the seats and wear along the front edges on both sides of the driver's seat (refer to pictures). The door cards are in acceptable condition, though they show some wear and the rear right door is missing a window winder. The headliner is intact but bears older stains.

  • Exterior condition:

The car underwent an older renovation and repaint, which has remained in good condition, making the car visually appealing with clean and straight bodywork, free of significant rust issues. The underbody is clean, exhibiting normal surface rust on the frame (refer to pictures). The paintwork is neat, boasting a bright finish, though there are a few imperfections: a paint chip on the rear right wing, a chip and cracked paint on the upper side of the left wing, a small blister on the roof, and scratches around the bonnet catches (see pictures). The chrome detailing throughout is bright and well-maintained.

  • General condition:

It's a nice and presentable car that, with a thorough review and service, could become a delightful vintage Ford to enjoy this summer.
