"Well-balanced with moderate power, easy to drive and reliable — quick and fun. A great entry-level sports car for enthusiasts of all ages."

Description

Originally delivered by Porsche Zentrum Frankfurt to its first owner, Herr Staak, in November 1988. The car was properly serviced according to schedule and documented in the service book until 2008.
In 2001, it was imported to Sweden, and from 2009 it belonged to a dedicated sports car enthusiast in Eksjö who used it with a sporty touch — including track days, sometimes with R-compound tires fitted.
The current owner purchased the car in 2018, has driven it sparingly, and maintained it with regular servicing. However, like the previous owner, he hasn’t logged the service in the book.
The most recent approved inspection was carried out on October 21, 2023, at 222,640 km. Today, the car has 226,910 km on the clock.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and runs well, refreshingly free from the typical era-specific alarms and complex immobilizers. The clutch engages a bit high and not particularly sporty — reportedly an easy mechanical adjustment at the pedal.
A quirky little detail is the previous owner's telltale hose from the expansion tank, designed to spray coolant onto the windshield in case of overheating — a creative warning system.

  • Interior condition:

Leather interior in good condition with normal wear, including the typical extra wear on the driver's seat bolster. Rear seat, carpets, sunroof, and cargo cover are all in good, standard condition.

  • Exterior condition:

Some minor stone chips and naturally worn paint on a car that’s been enthusiastically driven for leisure — and occasionally on the track.
A set of Toyo R888 R tires with 5 mm tread on original Porsche “phone dial” wheels is included.

  • General condition:

A strong overall impression and a cohesive sense of quality — much like many of the brand’s classic models.

Facts about the model

The Porsche 944 was produced between 1982 and 1991 as a refined successor to the 924. The model brought a range of improvements, including wider fenders, a new engine, and upgraded brakes. However, the interior remained largely the same as the 924's until 1985, when an updated design was introduced. This newer version featured rounder lines on the dashboard and is commonly referred to as the “1985B” or “1985/2.”

The engine was a front-mounted, 2.5-liter 8-valve four-cylinder Porsche unit producing 163 hp. Like the 924, the 944 offered excellent handling, thanks to its nearly perfect weight distribution.

In 1986, Porsche launched the Turbo model (internally designated 951), which introduced many improvements and featured a more modern front end — later shared with the 944 S2. In 1987, the 944 S arrived with a 16-valve engine producing 190 hp. A year later, Porsche released the special-edition Turbo S with a larger turbocharger, 250 hp, and a limited-slip differential. By 1989, the standard Turbo received the same upgrades.

Also in 1989, the 944 S2 was introduced with a 3.0-liter 16-valve engine producing 211 hp — the world’s largest production four-cylinder engine at the time. The S2 adopted the Turbo’s bodywork, along with larger brakes and 16" Design 90 wheels. It could do 0–100 km/h in 6.2 seconds and had a top speed of around 240 km/h.

The 944 was a commercial success, sold in large numbers and praised for its balance and drivability. In 1992, it was succeeded by the Porsche 968 — a further development of the same core concept.
