"In almost new condition - like a time capsule."

Description

A 240DL with a B200K engine and a four-speed manual gearbox. Taken into use in June 1986 in Mölndal. After a few years, it was sold to a man in Hunnebostrand. There, it was used sparingly and after his passing, it was transferred to his partner who used the car even less. Despite limited use, the car was still subject to yearly inspections, services, and rust protection treatments.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car is sparsely equipped with the B200K engine and manual choke. It has a standard four-speed gearbox and brake servo, but lacks power steering. It handles and operates almost like a new car. The engine runs smoothly, pulls well, and idles evenly. The only issue is a whining noise that seems to come from the prop shaft support bearing.

  • Interior condition

The car can only be described as completely flawless. A previous owner has likely been quite tall as some stains can be seen on the ceiling above the driver's seat. Otherwise, the seats, controls, and everything else look and feel just like when it left the factory.

  • Exterior condition

Almost flawless, clean and tidy in all nooks and crannies. Some scratches can be seen on the corners of the bumpers. Despite being used very sparingly, the car has been underbody-treated and rust-protected on several occasions. The rims are very nice and the tires are probably the original ones or at least very close to it. Despite its age, there are no dry cracks.

  • General condition

I would say that this is one of the finest Volvo 240s that can be found. The condition is more like 5000 km than 50 000 km.

Facts about the model

The most sold car model in Sweden. In 1983, Volvo decided to abandon the old model designations 242, 244, and 245 - from now on, all models would be called 240. In 1984, all models with injection engines - GLT, GLE, and Turbo - received a new front with a raised hood and black grille, and all cars were equipped with position lights on the front fenders. In 1985, all models received redesigned engines with reduced internal friction. The lower friction reduced fuel consumption and improved cold-starting performance. The engines had a new cast-iron block and an aluminum cylinder head.

The Volvo 240, which had its origin in the 140 series, was first introduced in 1974. Over the years, it underwent several changes, and when the successor 740 was introduced in 1984, many thought that the 240 would disappear. However, the discontinuation was postponed until 1993.
