GP 718 RSK Spyder — 1984

A fun replica that doesn't pretend to be anything else but also includes today's exclusive parts from the genuine brand. Driveable, but not formally road-ready.

"Today, the free-thinking part of the 356 scene is relatively accepting of various derivatives and replicas of the real models. This could become a tough Spyder that may find friends among many different air-cooled four-cylinder Porsches and Volkswagens at the gatherings."

"Today, the free-thinking part of the 356 scene is relatively accepting of various derivatives and replicas of the real models. This could become a tough Spyder that may find friends among many different air-cooled four-cylinder Porsches and Volkswagens at the gatherings."

Description

A Porsche 718 RSK replica from Grand Prix Vehicles in England that was revived as a model in the 1980s, according to the brochures. Constructed with a chassis similar to the original car and equipped with a Porsche Super 90 industrial engine, 356 gearbox, and brakes, this is said to be the only replica allowed to be cast from the original body. The owner raced in the seventies and eighties with Porsche figure Sten Hillgard (who drove a 917) and with a Porsche 908 now owned by Jerry Seinfeld. This car was received from Hillgard as partial payment for various parts for the 908, among other items. The car's registration number dates back to when it was first registered in the eighties and currently belongs to a decommissioned Volkswagen Polo, but whether the car is an SFRO build or its own replica model that can be approved as such from the eighties is something a new owner would need to investigate.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car has a Porsche Super 90 industrial engine manufactured in 1970, type 616/33-1 with 1680 cm3. It had an operating time of 125 hours when it was mounted. Porsche gearbox and genuine 356 brakes from a B or C model. The engine, gearbox, and brakes work fine, and the car is drivable, but one must keep in mind that it is low. The front axle is from a sixties Volkswagen.

  • Interior condition:

Simple, but whole and clean small seats covered in vinyl. The instruments are not connected and/or working, it's unclear if they work. Otherwise, it's sportily Spartan in a race-car fashion.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint is of an older type, is in an acceptable condition for use, and does not embarrass itself. The plexiglass covers for the headlights are both for the right side and consequently only fit that side.

  • General condition:

A drivable and fun object with great potential for joy without overly depleting the monetary account. And also, with sought-after brand mechanics.

Facts about the model

In the photos and PDFs, you can read about the project, the construction, the built cars, and also the Swedish car portrayed in the magazine Wheels in 1984, which with great probability is the auction car.
