Cadillac Eldorado Seville HT Coupé 390 — 1959

Considered by most to be the finest jewel in the American cars' interpretation of the space age and the shapes and fins of the fifties. Exclusive then and perhaps even more exclusive now. Low, long, and a paradoxically beautiful and sleek apparition.

"This car has been the crown jewel of its collection. Only 975 units of the Seville were built, thats it."

Description

This particular car was a California resident since its initial delivery in 1959, and made its way to Sweden in the early '90s. Originally white and in a serviceable but not rusty condition, it caught the attention of some enthusiastic young individuals in Ystad who gave it a purple paint job, added tint to the windows, and used it for local cruising. The Cadillac was later acquired by Thomas from Tomelilla, a noted Cadillac aficionado, who undertook a comprehensive restoration. His efforts were rewarded with several awards in 1997 and 1998, with some accolades visible in the trunk in photographs. Notably, it secured the first prize at a Power Meet in 1998, a recognition of considerable weight and significance. By 1999, Thomas had personally delivered the car to the Sandahl collections. It was still operational a decade later, with its most recent inspection approval occurring on April 9, 2009. The car boasts an impressive array of period-specific features, including air conditioning, electrically operated windows and vents, power locks, an adjustable power seat, an electric trunk with automatic closing, fog and reverse lights, power steering and brakes, a windshield wiper with a washer and two speeds, a passenger-side vanity mirror, an automatic high beam dimmer, interior lighting with map lights, and tinted windows.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car recently had a start up service that included a brake check with new fluids and replacement of the front rubber hoses. It starts easily, runs well, and the brakes are effective, but there's potential for further improvement. The engine and engine bay is super clean, although the suspension’s air compressor is disconnected. The AC works well, and it has nice wheels with older, yet dependable tires.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is reuppholsterd by the well-known CH Trimshop in Bodafors, and the color of the leather exudes space, rockets, and the science fiction movies of the fifties. Interior presents beautifully, free from any wear, with seats that remain in a pristine, like-new condition. The door panels, headliner, and carpets are all appealing, though the carpets could benefit from a cleaning for enhanced appearance. Functionally, the power windows, vents, electric boot release, and adjustable power seats for both raising and tilting operate seamlessly, despite the factory radio being non-functional. The dashboard and instruments are immaculate, surrounded by an extensive use of chrome, adding to the vehicle's charm. An additional horn button has been added, though the chrome ring surrounding the horn is partially damaged (with the broken piece provided). Overall, it's an exceptional space to relax and appreciate the enduring appeal of this car.

  • Exterior condition:

The car's bodywork is in excellent condition, characterized by straight lines and precise panel alignment, free from rust or dents. The underbody mirrors this quality, showing no signs of damage or rust. The paint job is of a high standard, boasting a fine finish that shines brilliantly under sunlight, though there are two paint cracks on the passenger front wing (as detailed in the provided pictures). The chrome detailing throughout the car is in outstanding condition, with no damage, truly reflecting its top-notch condition.

  • General condition:

This car has been the crown jewel of its collection, garnering numerous awards and continuing to impress with its appearance even today. After spending many years on display in a museum, it's now ready to be enjoyed on the road again. All it requires is some proper driving and a few adjustments along the ways.
