"A Swedish classic in used condition."

Description

The current owner is the third owner of this Volvo. It was sold as new to a man in Gävle, Sweden. The car was then passed down to his son, who used it sporadically for several years. The son mentioned that he was the only person who had ever sat in the back seat. The car feels quite original, with even the sticker with start-up instructions still attached to the inside of the windshield. The Volvo was used less and less until the current owner had the opportunity to take it over. New brake calipers and discs have been installed all around, and the car passed its latest inspection in March 2023, as shown in the picture. Original turn signal lenses for the front are also included, as shown in the picture.

This Volvo is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, rear headrests, and a Volvo original stereo.

Facts about the model

The Volvo 240 was an evolution of the Volvo 140 series and was introduced in 1974. The Volvo 240 was a huge success and is Volvo's most produced model series ever, with 2.8 million units manufactured. It was divided, just like its predecessor, into the 242 (two-door version), 244 (four-door version), and 245 (station wagon). These designations were removed starting with the 1983 model year. Instead, all versions were officially called the 240. The designations are still used to clarify which body type is being referred to.

Over the years, the 240 series underwent several changes, including the modernization of the front end multiple times. The biggest change was made for the 1981 model year when an entirely new front end and interior were introduced. The Volvo 240 has become a cult classic as the typical Volvo. The Volvo 240 was also Sweden's most common car for a long time.

When the Volvo 740 was introduced in 1984, many thought that the time of the 240 was over, but it continued to be produced until 1993, one year after the last 740 was produced. After 1985, the model variants became fewer. For example, the two-door model was discontinued because Volvo was focusing on the newly launched and intended successor, the 740, as a larger volume car in the model range. Production of the 240 did not cease until 1993 when production capacity was needed for the Volvo 850. The last Volvo 240, a green station wagon, was manufactured on May 5, 1993.
