"A rolling restoration or use it as it is."

Description

One of the more sought-after VW models with an oval rear window in a barn find condition. A VW that has been used by a few owners in Dalarna and has seen better days, but the car appears to be structurally sound and has a nice patina. In 2013, the car had a lot of the brake system replaced along with other new parts, see pictures of receipts. After this was done, the car was stored until the current owner bought it in 2020. The car passed the Swedish vehicle inspection in 2020 and received new tires. After fixing the fuel leak, this VW will be a very nice classic to use as is or restore to mint condition.

This, like many other Type 1's from the mid-1950s, has the wrong model year in the Swedish registry. In August 1955, Volkswagen changed their model year from being based on the calendar year to presenting the new model. Cars manufactured in 1955 on August 1st or later are considered model year 1956. This example, according to its chassis number, was manufactured in September 1955.

It starts easily and runs well in the engine and drivetrain. It leaks gasoline, probably from the tank. The car still has a 6-volt electrical system. The engine is not original but a newer 1200 with 34 horsepower. It has the code letter (D). Code letters were introduced in August 1965.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in a slightly worn condition but has potential. Discolored headliner. Moisture damage on the front door panels. Damage on the driver's seat and some minor damages elsewhere. Another driver's seat with original upholstery on the backrest is included.

  • Exterior condition:

This "Oval" has a worn and weathered exterior. It has worn paint, rust, and worn chrome that belongs to a barn find. The car passed inspection at the roadworthiness test in 2020.

  • General condition:

A car in a good starting condition but with a worn surface.

Facts about the model

The early models with oval rear window, and especially those with a split rear window, have a special status among a large part of the enthusiasts in the VW scene. They are in turn divided - with a slight generalization - into pure original versions and lightly modified interpretations, with primarily a lowered stance and a bit more power in the engine.
