Description
As a model, this car is particularly interesting as it represents the top-of-the-line in Volvo’s more modern era, which began in earnest in 1991 with the introduction of five-cylinder engines and front-wheel drive. With turbocharging, all-wheel drive, and in this raised XC configuration, it became a long-awaited success—ushering in a bestselling series that remains at the core of Volvo’s lineup today.
This example is in unusually well-preserved condition. The current owner searched extensively to find one this good. As these cars are known for being robust, durable, responsive, and great to drive, most surviving examples show heavy use. In contrast, this one remains in original, unmolested condition, showing only light signs of normal use.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Well maintained, with the timing belt replaced four years ago. The car has been driven relatively little over the past five years. It is scheduled for inspection now and will be delivered with a new inspection (MOT) after the auction. Tires have 40% left and the rubber has some dry cracks.
-
Interior condition
Grey leather upholstery in generally well-kept condition—see photos. No notable flaws, except for a mark on the center armrest cover.
-
Exterior condition
Clean and solid overall. Only a few minor stone chips and light scratches. No visible rust. Some scuffing on the plastic parts of the bumpers—see photos. A few plastic trim pieces have faded slightly and would look significantly better with some vinyl cleaner and detailing.
-
General condition
Very good overall impression. Looks great as it is, but with a professional detailing—machine polish and vinyl treatment—it could be taken to an even higher level. Today, this is a rare Volvo model, with strong potential for future value appreciation, while also offering many more years of practical usability.

Facts about the model
The model was an updated and further developed version of the Volvo 850, and made its debut at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show. It quickly became a bestseller, with the 2.4T petrol version producing 194 hp being the most sought-after variant. The first-generation V70 XC was sold for just three years before being replaced in 2001 by the V70N Cross Country.
Today, these early models are increasingly rare, as their excellent drivetrain and high everyday usability have led most of them to be heavily used and eventually worn out.
