"It's hard to believe that the car is nearly 30 years old. It's unusually well-preserved and drives beautifully during the test drive. The explanation, of course, lies in its low mileage and the fact that it has had only one actual owner. The car is ready to drive and has a valid inspection approval until August 31, 2025."

Description

The car was originally purchased new at Bilia in Gothenburg by an elderly lady living in Skepplanda. She drove it very sparingly. When the current owner acquired the car in 2020, it had only covered 31,950 kilometers. According to the vehicle registry, there have been three owners: the first owner, then an auction company, and the current owner. However, the car has effectively had only one actual user—the original owner. The current owner has merely maintained the vehicle and driven less than 3,000 kilometers over five years, mainly to and from vehicle inspections and occasional warm-up drives to keep it in good condition.

He purchased the car as an enthusiast vehicle but now feels it’s too nice to use for regular summer driving and has therefore decided to part with it. Two keys come with the car. However, the alarm system is currently disconnected as the original alarm tags were lost by the first owner. The current owner has acquired two replacement tags, but they need to be programmed, and the alarm system must be reactivated by a Volvo service center. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that the alarm system is functional.

During a basic inspection of the car’s underside—without a lift—we noted the following: these models have an independent rear axle with control arms for improved ride comfort, and these control arms show surface rust, particularly the lower ones. We recommend having this addressed appropriately and then applying rust protection to the underside of the vehicle. It was not noted as a defect during the vehicle inspection but looks out of place on an otherwise very tidy car. See photos.

Included with the car are an unused original spare wheel, jack, and tool kit. Also included are the owner’s manual, service booklet, and a receipt for the major service performed in 2020.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Equipped with a straight six-cylinder 3.0-liter aluminum engine featuring dual overhead camshafts and 4 valves per cylinder, delivering a stated output of 204 hp. Paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Starts easily and sounds just right.

The most recent major service was performed in May 2020 at 32,000 kilometers, including a precautionary timing belt replacement. Since then, the car has only been driven an additional 3,500 kilometers. A new genuine Volvo battery was also installed in 2020.

The car is fitted with air conditioning, which blew ice-cold during the test drive. The alarm system is currently disconnected—see the description above for more information.

  • Interior condition:

Leather interior in fantastic condition. Double floor mats have been used on the driver’s side to protect the carpet. The dome light and cup holder in the center console are loose in their mounts, which should be easy to fix. Equipped with Volvo’s top-of-the-line factory stereo from the time.

  • Exterior condition:

Original specification in very fine condition. We’ve checked the date codes on the tires and believe they may be the same ones fitted when the car was delivered new from Volvo, which seems reasonable—although we cannot guarantee it. There are a few minor scratches, one door ding, and some small marks in the paint, but the overall condition is as good as one could reasonably expect given the car’s age and mileage. After all, it was used as a “regular” car by the first owner. See the note about the underside in the description.

  • General condition:

A future collector’s car that has covered an unusually low number of kilometers since new. Perfect for a Volvo collection or a classic car meet.
