Description
The current owner has compiled a detailed history, including an amusing account of a stereotypical used car salesman and a few past owners who, with a twist, tried to rewrite the car’s manufacturing origins—even during a car show in the 1980s. An article in *Bilsport* magazine, oddly written and seemingly without any research, is part of that twist. The reveal and story behind it can be found among the photos—a fun little anecdote in the car’s history. The current owner has, of course, maintained and cared for the vehicle well over his 17 years of ownership.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The car is currently fitted with a B16 engine, having undergone an engine swap from the original B4B to a B14A back in 1960. That later engine now resides in a P1900, which the current owner sold at auction last year—an arguably more fitting home for it. The B16 feels healthy, and with its three-speed gearbox, the car has a fairly low final drive ratio.
-
Interior condition
Original leather upholstery with a few split seams and some repairs on the driver’s seat. Otherwise, it’s in a pleasantly worn condition with loads of charming patina.
-
Exterior condition
All indications suggest the car received its current paint in the mid-1970s, at which time the rear fenders were also replaced. Beyond that, nothing else has been restored. Today, it presents as charming and respectable, with a well-functioning convertible top.
The yellow shade on the wheels was painted according to a specified color code which, as it turned out, wasn’t quite accurate—hence the slight color mismatch. -
General condition
Overall, the car has a handsome patina, and its well-used character—combined with solid mechanical condition and an entertaining history—is, in many ways, worth preserving just as it is.
